T t Hew the Seymour Murderer was Lynched. At about 12:30 o'clock Tuesday morning, May 16th, an engine with a coach carrying fifty masked men, pulled into Brownstown station from SejTiiour. These passengers disembarked and stationed sentinels in every part of the town, who kept up communication by means of cat calls for full half an hour. All then seemed quiet, and the streets were deserted, as the strangers approached the jail. Jailer Clark was aroused by a demand for the body of Louis Trenck. Clark refused to surrender him. Then the leader ordered Clark to hand over the keys, and, upon his refusal he was seized and searched, but the keys were not found. The leaders were prepared for this and immediately began to force an entrance to the prisoner's cell. In a short time . they had reached him and told him to throw up his hands. Trenck complied, exclaiming, "My God, what will I db?" He was told to walk out, but was so overcome with fright that he could not obey. Thereupon he was- seized and dragged into the court house yard, the prisoner all the time moaning and murmuring. "My God, men, don't hang me; let the law have its way." A stop was made under the nearest tree, and the leader commanded "No. 20" to climb and adjust the rope, while "No. 8" fastened the noose around the trembling victim's neck. Trenck was then hoisted high into the air; the rope was tied and the body was permitted to swing back and forth, the leader all the time curs ing and swearing at his men to hurry up and not to waste so much time. Many of the men were very nervous and acted as if they did' not at all relish the work, but the urgent commands goaded them on. About 1:30 a., m. the crowd, left as orderly as it had come. Don't neglect to go and see those pretty building lots on Prospect Hill.
