The speed ring at the fair grounds will be made a half mile in length this season. In building the track last fall a blunder was committed by which the track was made fifty feet short. A bold burglary was committed in the Moore's Creek neighborhood Sunday night a week. The house of Wm. Ping was entered, $208 in money, and notes and accounts were carried away. Several months ago the same premises were invaded and $35 stolen. Mr. Ping awoke while the thieves were ran sacking the house, aud claims to have recogniztnl one of the writes. A serious accident happened to Milton Berry, a locomotive fireman, last week. He came in contact with a switch guard, was knocked from his engine and his right ankle is dislocuted and several Small bones of the foot are broken. There is also a slight scalp wound on his head. He resides in Lafayette, to which city he was taken after railroad surgeon Harris bad given him attention. The following children were admitted to First Holy Communion st the St. Charles Catholic church on Sunday : Joseph Kerr, Joseph Murphy, John Droll, Rosa Stein burg, Lizzia Fleener, Jessie Mathews, Sarah Kerr. Addison Smith, one of the reliable carpenters, is doing the work. The remains of Mrs. Curry Ewing arrived iu Bloomington Wednesday evening from Indianapolis, where she died. Mrs. Ewing was a sister of Rev. Shaw, so well and favorably known here as the former pastor of the Reformed Presbyterian church. .,Death was the result- of la grippe. Deceased was about 60 years of age. A new steam fire engine lias been purchased by the city council from the makers of the Siisby. The machine U to be delivered in Blootuiugton in July. No better men could be selected to manage the city business titan those nominated by the Republicans, aud who are to be elected May 3d. The ticket will be successful of course, but the majority should be creditable. Let every Republican come out and vote. Rev. Shaw came from his home in Pennsylvania to attend the funeral of Mrs. Curry Ewing. Samuel Orchard has sold the north half of his lot in tbe rear of Benckart's bakery to Gen. A. Benckart. The price is $1,500. The members of the Catholic church are holding socials at the different residences each week, aud a neat revenue is realized for tbe benefit of the church by this plan. It has been decided to build new bridges over Spanker's branch at the east end of Kirkwood Avenue and across the same stream at the east end of 4th street. The bridges uow spanning the stream at those points ere double arch of insufficient capacity to carry off the water after a heavy rain. These bridges mast be torn out, new abutments built, and iron bridges ,of a twenty foot snail will take j their place. The work will cost j about $3,000, and will be done as i soon as the necessary details can be perfected. Au appropriation has huen made by the county commissioners. North of Alley, The many warm friends of Senator Fulk will deeply sympathize with him and bis excellent wife iu their last bereavement, the death of their son Homer, which occurred at Lafayette ou Thursday night last after tin illness of one week with congestion of the stomach. Homer Fulk was well known in Monroe county, having served under bis father four years as deputy while Senator Fulk wan Auditor of Monroe county- Since that time he has held a responsible position with the W. L'. Telegraph Co. st Lafayette, where be residud with his wife and two children. Homer Fulk wan one of three sons that at one time comprised the family, with Mrs. Lulu Smith, the only daughter. The sons have all died after very short periods of m II ns, leaving only the daughter surviving. The remains were interred at Iafayetcc, A citizen of Bloomington has just recently completed a fibre that will compete with siscl, jute, inanilla or hemp in strength and durability.
