The publio school library is one of the valued institutions of our city, and reflects great credit upon its originators. The Mechanics' Band concert, this (Tuesday) e vening, will be one of the events of the winter. The Band deserves rind should receive liberal patronage in consideration of their unselfis efforts in the past to please the people. There is a vast amount of labor and expense connected with the successful carrying on of a band, and the young men should bo substantially remembered. The "Snider Vreb" party, given by MUs Chtirlotte Perring and brother at Clear Creek, was one of the enjoyable events ot the month. Good music, entertaining games, etc., made the evening seem uncommonly short. On Moidn,y morning of last week Mrs. W, M. Tate died in Chicago, when: she had gone to have a diffioul: surgical operation performed. After this had been done successful ly she seemed to be gettiog along nicely until a faw hours before her death, when a reaction set in wi th unfavorable symptoms that produced death. The funeral serviosn were held in the College Avetiiie M. . church, where Mrs Tate had been a life long member. She was a daughter of Thomas Spieer, and a highly respected wocnap. She had no children. The congregation of the Kirkwood Avenue Christian church have secured a Pastor in the person of Rev. L. T VanCleave, and he will be hern to begin hii work about the la ret of the year. Mr. VanCleave in a man of about thirty years, has a Is mily, and is a native Indianian, hiving been born in Montgomery county. During the past eighteen months he has been preaching for a congregation at Wichita, Kansas. Be preached for the people here some three weeks ago, and his effort was entirely satisfactory.
