"There they trot from the middle of April to Decemlier, starting and fiuishing in the Southern countries. The bert tracks in Europe are at Berlin and Vienna, Berlin is the only one that has a mile track, the others being from .1,000 to 1,200 meters each, -a meter being 80 of oor inches, 1 believe. The tracks are not like oora, but are up hill and down dale over gros. It woold be just tbe fame i you tore down tbe fences and raced over the fields here. ndurance is what they claim to want in trotters there, although 1 have never seen any of

The races lbere are all handicaps, horses being allowed ten meters

bas been assessed for taxation at from 60 to 70 per cent, of its actual value: hereafter it will be as
sessed at its "full, true cash value." This increased appraisement, together with tbe increase of 50 per cent, in tbe tax levy, will add near

A Public Taalt. The great number of deaths that our
community bas bad recently, and so many of them occurring during the most un
pleasant ana disagreeable weather, has awakened our citizens to the great need ot a pabllc rault. To this end, Gol. A. O. Voris has magnanimously proposed that he will erect at bis own expense in Green Bill Cemetery a public vault, pro.
viuiug hue remaining citizens will contribute sufficient to macadamixa the st reels and drives that are now gradually washing away. This geneiwua offer oa Col.

Here is something that has for a
long time been talked of in Bloomington. and has been neglected.
One of the repugnant features about country town burials ia tbe
uuuoe baste that is oftentimes man
ifested by relations and friends in
placing out of sight the remains of
deceased, in the cities, for a small
compensation, the remains can be
placed in a vault, secure from in
trustun, and if there is any question
as to a premature burial, all doubts can thus be set st rest. The Progress does not believe that there is a man in our city council, who, if the matter is brought home to
him, win vole against appropriating a sufficient amount of money
to build a secure 'and creditable
vault in tbe city cemetery, and we
suggest that tbe matter be agitated
at once.
