A special palace poultry

is a new wrinkle In transportation

business. The first one of these

cars that has come to Indianapolis

was loaded at the Bee Line freight

depot to-day. It is intended exclusively for the shipping of poul

try. Hitherto, poultry has been hustled into wooden cnons and placed

ia an ordinary stock car. The

new Jenkins car, iu a general way,

represents an ordinary freight car. Its ridesbowever, are fitted with wire screens of a texture just Sne

enough to prevent the chickens

and geese, seen inside, from tbrnst-

ine their necks through in that

painful way tbey have, and mistakenly choking oat their ambitions lives.

The car is neatly divided into 128 permanent coops or cages about

ten inches high, with wooden floors

and wire doors, iuich coop has a galvanized iron water and feed

trough. An-aisle runs througl

tbe length ot toe car, and tue cen

ter at the door is the compartment for- the attendant. Above this

compartment is" a' water tank hold

iag about 75 gallons, to be filled at

various stations, and below the

floor is a place to stow away feed

lbechiet claims tor the car are

that there is less likelihood of suffocation, and that with the im

less shrinkage, in weight and the

advantage of holding tbe poultry

for the market. The car, it is said,

will contain 5,00 chickens'. Ar

A woman who claims to know

moeh about actresses and their

fads," says : "Stage beauties ss

rule have a peculiar training. Eew

of tbem nave enough to eat when

they are children, and they have

to work bard till tbey gain success,

and then Work hard to beep it.

A girl who baa never known what it was to have too much to eat, and who has run errands after rougesaucers for actresses or sewing silk and buttons for a dressmaker 'till she is in her teens gets a thin skin which don't show blemishes easily, and when she has a little easier life and takes to tbe study and fixes Bp a little it seems like a paradise to ber, comparatively. When tbe tjirisr begin-to try- and' flesh up a little most of them take to bread nd milk, with a little of 'the least as ever-is in it, and they are always taking physio if anything is tbe matter, tbey are so afraid of being laid aside. Tbe English girls always take 'beechams,' but Americans stand by castor oil. If they bave a cold on their chest, and their insides are out of order with the horrid board they have to pul op with, there's nothing brings 'em right like a dose of oil, any time of day or night. It carries tbe enld off in two or three hours and leaves their head as clear as a bell. For complexions every one

of them lias some device or other -fi i i .it

privaio wi Her uwn. vsne imkco iiiv skin off of suet and binds? t on her

faee, another wears surgeons' plas

ters to soften it, but to my notion there is nothing like bread and milk poultices used regularly. More stage beauties owe their complexions to this than you will ever

eet 'em to own. Take the rrutnbs

of baker's bread and sleep in milk

and warm it just as you put it on, with linen cloth over, 'and you've no idea bow lair it leaven the face.

It seems to. plump ibe face, take out the lines and wbitcn it just as you whiten a chicken by boiling it

in milk and water, sulphur and milk or molasses clears the face beautifully, and keeps the flesh

down too. It's nonsense about the

paint and powder worn three or four hours on the stage spoiling the face if it is cared fur other ways.

If you go to bed and sleep with it

on, of course it don't do any good,

but actresses as a rnle know how

to take care of themselves better

than tbey used to better than any

other class of women, really. Thev

wash the face and neck off well in

hot water before making up, and

while the skin is warm rub it with cocoa butter or tho grease sold lor the purpose, which is almost the same ; and powder over that, paint and add the lines with a whole pa

lette of crayons that come for tbe purpose with a big book of plates lor making np tho face in character. Then before you leave the theater this is all washed off, tbe face well veiled you'll see the stiigc ladies very particular about their veils and before they go to bed the face ought to get another wash in hot water. Tbat leaves it fair enough, and the stage paint

don't amount to- more than the eold cream ladies sleep in over

night." . '

To all persons who are hauling over the Pike roads of Monroe county ; Since thore have been many complaints made at the Auditor's office within the past few days about people hauling heavy binds over the pikes during muddy weather, I deem it my duty,, as Auditor of the county, to call the attention of all persons interested, to the act passed by the legislature of 1889, concerning said question, which is

as follows: sec. 1, pages 378-379' "Be it enacted by the Genera) Assembly of tbo State of Indiana, That it shall be unlawful for any person to haul over any turnpikes or gravel roads nt any time when the same is thawing through, or is by reason of wet weather in condition to be cut up and injured bv heavy hauling, a load on a narrow-tired wagon of more than twenty hundred pounds, or on a a broad-tired wagon, of mora than twenty-five hundred pounds, and any person violating the provisions of this act shall be lined not less than five dollars nor mere than fifty dollars for each Itmd se hauled."
