Vnlveralty Scffolarablpa. The committee ou legal affairs,
appointed by the Board of Trustees of Indiana University, have rendered a very important decision
bearing on scholarahips, a number
of which are in- existence. The
point to tbeir decision is as follow :
1st. Students being gratuitously educated by the original purchaser, and then only by presenting a certificate from such original purchas
er aa required in the 7th paragraph
ol stiid scnolarsntp. 2d. Such original purchaser himself, or bis children or grandchildren, 3d, In rase tbe original purchaser died leaving a will, then such person who can trace their right lo lira the scholarship through the will of said purchaser, and in order to trace through the will, the will must in effect bequeath the scholarship to the pcrsou so claiming. 4th. In case tbe original purchaser died without a will then the lineal descendants (that is children, grandchildren, Ac.) of said original purchaser. Under no circumstances ran any purchaser be entitled to admission tn the University upon a scholarship unless he or she Mongs to one of tbe four classes above enumerated. Your committee is informed that a large number of students are now attending the University upon such choWfliips who are not entitled, and your committee therefore recommends that after the present term raid scholarships, be recognised and honored only when prrsented by persons eutitled to their benefits as hereiinsbove set forlhi and that the Secretary of (he
