&c OO. THE CORN CROP. Says a well-posted oorngrower: "The eoming corn crop is not near so had as has been represented, and the rains will be very beneficial in filling out the ears and grains. There W88 a large amount of early corn planted last spring, and the early drouth this summer killed a small amount of it ; but that which was not killed has been started by the late rains and is getting along fairly well. The late corn was considerably iujured by the drouth ; but the recent rains are helping it out a great deal. The farmers are now fearing an early frost which, if it should come, would be very detrimental to the corn in its present tender state. There are some fields wbk-h, I think, will average fatly sixty bushels to the acre, while probably the adjoining field will be a little higher, have a gravelly or sandy and dryer soil, and have comparatively no crop at all. The wet soil of the bottoms has not been injured much, and will be the most productive. The graelly, sandy and dry soil, before mentioned, hasn't stood mnch show this season,. There have been predictions that the corn this season will not average near hslf a crop ; but I think that that fraction will be easily reached thii fall. - . 1 Mabtixsville, Aug. 29. Jas.
