The Barton descendants held one of their rem&rkable family reunions at Mitchell, Aug. 28, meeting in the little graveyard near tbat city, which is known as the "Burton Burial Place." Tbecetn etsry covers about - two acres of ground, and there are many bead' stones. Conspicuous in toe center is the monument, twenty-six feet in height, and engraved, "Sacred to the memory of John Pleasant Barton, who departed this life October 22, 1836." Then follows the names of bis ten sons, Biobard, John, David, William, Hutching, Zacb-triah, Isom and Hardy. For fifteen sneeeraive yean, tbe descend, ants have held a reunion here, aud they now number 3,000 men, women and children. The family is of English descent, settling originally at Richmond, Va., but in the early days of the State, John Pleasant Burton migrated to that section, and pre-empted the lead whkb was afterward converted in toamagniicent 'arm. Mr. Burton died in 1836, and prior to his (.derma? be stipulated that be should be boned in an upright position in a grave eleven feet deep, with Masonic ceremonies. The Seventli Day AdTentlats. DEATH OF JACOB BOTCHER. Feaskfort, Aug. 24. The center of interest is the camp meeting of the seventh day adventists. Yesterday (Saturday) was the Sabbath with this people, when everything of business nature was closed up. .The Sabbath began at sunset Friday evening, and the services were attended by a congregation of nearly fifteen hundred. At the close, of tbe Sabbath at sunset an invitation was given to those who desired to become christians to come forward, to which nearly one hundred responded. A sad incident of tbe camp-meet-ing was tbe sudden death, about 7 o'clock this (Sunday) morning, of Jacob Butcher, of near Bloomington, Monroe county. Mr. Butcher had been ia bad health, resulting from la grippe, all summer. He was not well when he came here, but attended all the meetings up to last night. About mid-night he was taken worse suddenly, and, though everything possible was done for his relief, he died as stated. A subscription was at onre taken up to purchase a coffin sod ship bis body home. More then sufficient was quickly given, and the surplus was added to what was found in his posses sion, and sent to bis wife. This is .ewoe. oc curred oo an ad ventist campground Queer BelleTlng; People. Logaksport, Aug. 31. Dur ing tht coronial investigation of the causes leading the death of the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs wm. Uavis, ot boultztowu, a suburg of this city, testimony was had showing that the child was given no medicine until the day it died, the parents believing in witchcraft. Their mode of curing was by "measurement" plan, i. e. I he body or a man, woman or child should be seven times as long as its foot. As soon as the little child fell ill it was measured, when it was round that its body was not seven times as long as its foot, The next step was to strip off all clothing, and with a tow-string measure tbe body three times, after which the string was bung on the gate-post all meat. lnis was done but the child continued sick sad finally died. It is said there are quite a number of these queer believing people in Mr. Davis neighborhood. Medical Specialists. T wen ty-nve years ago specialists were regarded as quacks, and the regular practitioners have been very slow to accord to them a professional standing. "Jow everything is changed," says Dr. Mackenzie, tbe famous English throat special "specialism has taken its place among recognized institutions. The press of competition is so fierce in tbe present overcrowded state of the medical profession that unless a man has some peculiar or decided advantage over the general run of bis fellows be stands no chance of coming to the front. Something more is wanted now-s-dsys for success in the higher walks of med icioe than mere general ability. Supreme talent will, of course, ul titnately find its level, unless kept do"n by accident or misfortune, but for tbe average clever man there is little prospect of brilliant success unless be has tbe power of doing some particular thing better than any one else, or at any rate pre-eminently well," If the prediction made by the Farmer's Alliance, tbat they will elect fifty members of the next Congress, sbould come true, it would giver them a formidable pow er to control legislation. Tbe in roads that would be made in tbeir electioo would be on the DemocraTio party, as these new members would come principally from the south. As the 'Republican parly is the farmers' friend, Republicans can look on the new movement with evident satisfaction, for every Farmer Alliance candidate elected is a nail in the coffin of the Demo cratic jwrly, and the election of an ally to Republicanism aud eulight-eoinent.
