Is the Republican Ticket Nominated Saturday last. The Convention cmd Us Work. ' 'The Republican county nominating convention met in the court house last Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, and was called to order by the Chairman ot the County Cen. tral Committee, Mr. A. T. Massey. After reading the call, and the question of electing a permanent Chairman coming up, Mr. Mag iey was placed in nomination, against his protest, and bis election had without a dissenting vote. On a call of the townships it was found that some of them were not full, and so each delegation completed its quota in accordance with its own wilh Bloomington township selected five new delegates by ballot, via i J. T. Langley, Hemp. Wilson, Joseph Allen, Dr. Axtell, and S.O. Curry The convention being ready for business, it was moved by J. T. Eller that as there was no opposi tion to Enoch Fuller as a candidate! for Clerk, that he be nominated by acclamation. The motion was seconded, and Mr. Fuller so nominated. A like motion prevailed in the case of Thos. J. Fan, the capdidate for Sheriff, who had - no opposition. Next in order were nominations for the office of Treasurer, and GK. Perry placed in nomination JT. Robertson of Richland tp.; Dr. Mwder ot Clear ureek tp. per formed a like service for Ed. Anderson, while I. Milt. Rogers presented Wm. Gourley's claims be fore the convention. The ballot resulted aa follows : Robertson, .... 31 Anderson, .... 44 Gourley, ..... 4 As there were 79 delegates. required but forty to nominate, and Mr. Anderson having seeured 44 votes, was declared tbe uomiuee. Nomiuations for County Com missioner were next in order, and Ira Batmau placed in nomination tbe name of Wm. Peterson, the present Commissioner from the 1st district. Wilson Adams presented the claims of Joseph V. Rawlins. The first ballot decided this, as it did all nominations, the vote being : Peterson, . . . . 82 Rawlios, ' . '. . . . 29 For the office of Commissioner for the. 2d district, J. T, Eller pre sented the name of Joseph. Dinsmore : W. J. Adams placed in nomination Monroe Miller. The ballot resulted ; Miller, 30 Dinsroore, .... 4i The office of Recorder was next in order, and Ira Batman made an eloquent appeal for the nomination uf James Jacksou. W. J. Adams placed the name of John Campbell in nomination, and made some poiuted remarks in doing so. The ballot was then called, aud the count showed Jackson, .... 49 Campbell, . . . . 29J . For the office of Coroner, the nresent iucumbent, -Dr. Jas. V, Maxwell, jr., was renominated by acclamation. County Surveyor was the last of fice to be filled, and M.H. Buakirk and C. F. Smith were placed in nomination with the following re-i suit: Bnskirk, . . . . 39 Smith 40 The convention then resolved itself into a Mass Meeting to nom inate Delegates to the various con ventions, and adjourned till 1 o' clock p.. ni. The convention did well in en dorsing without contest the claims of Fuller and Farr two sure win ners. These men are faithful offic ers, and will serve the people well and honestly another term. . No convent ion.eyer went off as smoothly in Mmroe county as that of last Saturday. But one ballot was needed to decide a nomination, and the result was satisfactory to all concerned. Tom Massey, for an untried man, made an acceptable Chairman. It was a position he did not desire, as he frankly said that he had bad no experience, and as he had no idea that the con vcutiou would select hint, such action being unprecedented, he had made no preparation. However the conveutiun Was well satisfied with bis evident determination to do the fair thing, and he has rcasun to congratulate himself upon the result. The speeoh making developed tbe, fact that there is a good deal of satisfaction with the Republican party, aud A'ch. Fleener and Joe Rawlius struck the key-nota in their speeches. Fleener said ho left the Republican parly and went to tbe Givenbnokcrs, but they did not succeed, so he came bauk to the Republican party said he couldn't tro to tho Democrats as the tneo he bad fought ugainst in the army were uemocruis to a man. doe Rawlins talked about "the enemy" in a like strain, and it was an oldfashioned ''love-lVast" for awhile ia the cyi'; '.w.

REMEMBER to ask J aver Jackson, who was cominated for Recorder, was not at the convention. J4t November he was caught in an elevator, agtd the fiegh torn from above one knee to the heel. For some time his life was despaired of, but a good constitution and unwavering .courage sustained him. He is still suffering intensely and is reduced to a mere skeleton, but he is hopeful and cheerful, and will pull through. It does bim good to have, people go over ou North Walnut street and talk to him, as it is lonesome lyiug on his back -for six months. Mr. Talbott may as well arrange to go into some other business, for Jackson will be the next Recorder. Ed. Anderson, the nominee for Treasurer, ia a No. 1 mau iu ajl particulars. He waa a former Trustee of Perry township, and gave evidence of uncommon financial ability. He is a rustler, too, and will keep tbe nominee of the Democracy very busy this Fall. The finances of Monroe county will be safe in Ed. Anderson's hands, and he will succeed that excellent gentleman, Dr. Gaston, In November, 1S92. Wm. Peterpos, the nominee for Co'unty Commissioner of the. 1st District, is one of tbe saieat men on the Board. He bears the reputation of having done much to lift tbe county out of debt on two occasions, aud is just as competent as ever for work of tbat character. He was a brave soldisr, has honorable scars received while facing the enemy, and isnH afraid to face them on or off the field of battle. Enoch will succeed himself iu November, Tom Fare was nominated by acclamation, as everybody believed be would be. Tom is one of the best fellows yau ever met he makes a capital Sheriff, and ia kind-hearted and clever. He was in the old 33d went in at-tbe age of 18 and was popular there as lie is here.
