Mary Alice Milam was. born near Spencer, Owen -county, Ind June 26tb, 184A, and died at her home near filoomington, Feb. Tth, 1890, aged 46 years. She was the daughter of Geo. and Mary (Chipman) Milam, pioneer settlers of Monroe county, her grandfather Chi pro an being one of the first to settle on the site of the town of Blooraington. Her uncle, Draper Chipmani is well remembered by the older settlers as a pioneer Methodist preacher. She was one of a largo family of children, three of whom survive her. She united with tbe M. . church at the age of eight years and professed religion at the age of 19 or 14 years at Hcdiog's Chapel, ia Owen county. She has always been a consistent and devoted christian, seeming to think more of tbe spiritual welfare of her children than of any other subject ' She was married to John B. Boaswrd, Anjrust 12th, 1860, and shortly afterward was left In care of Iter father while ber husband spent nearly five years at tbe front fighting for the Union. She was never known to complain of this hardship, but was in this as ia all things, ready to cheerfully make any sacrifice, however great, in any cause she believed to be right. To them have been born ten children, seven of them with their father survive her. The funeral sermon wns preached at her borne by Bev. A. N. El rod to the assembled community, Sunday morning a week at 10 o'clock, after which tbe remains were interred in the Bloomiagton cemetery. Wheeling, Vf.
