Come and see these of the Alley,, The Spanish SA8H. The latest fad for the young men of leisure and fashion is the Spanish aasli. iney are handsome, eflecuve, proiMQiy comiortabte. but tremendously effeminate, and are hardly destinei to last longer than the erase of the same class of blase individuals for corsets. The Spsalsh sash I saw was fully four yards long and foot wide. It was made of best black silk, and one end was fringed, It was' wrapped full width about the waist, of a willowy young man, and, as he told me, answered for suspenders as well as vest. It was pulled .tight and fastened with three pearl scarf-pins. It looked easy, but the creases were suggestive of tight lacing. The sashes come in all the dark shades, and are high priced enough to suit the most fastidious, but the art of arranging them properly is not to be readily acquired. New York Graphic Tbe Cfcerekee Strip. When the Cherokee strip w op enKl for settlement, as it probably will bo soon, there wont be the rush into the country that there was to Oklahoma. There wil he many reasons for this. In the first place, those who have bran prostrated for rears with the Oklahoma fever have beheld the bunting: of the bubble. They have afco had a, glim me of the strip lands whilt . ... ri. .. i .... a casual glance at that country is 8 -indent to convince anyone tu ms tenses that the land will not be a banana tu the man who secures it. It is true that there is a great deal of good land in the Cherokee outlet, but taking it as a whole the country is not as good as tbe country already opened. The soil is not as heavy sod there is less water and timber. We have traveled in that eounty lor twenty roiles without seeing a tree or a drop of water. And there are immense tracts of land that are absolutely worthless, land upon which nothing can be raised now or in the future. Soon after leaving the Kansas line the red soil, of which so much has been ssid in Oklahoma, begins, aud tbete is little else except sand and gypsum to be found. The soil is so poor that the cattlemen allow from seven to fifteen acres for the support of each steer, and then often the long horns do not live very high. It is a dreary country at the best, ami one that any man will (lo well to keep sway from. A Broad Hint. 'People who go into dry goods stores, whether they go there to trade or not, should be careful how tbey lean on the goods displayed for sale. There are many bolts of calico and other goods in this town which have beeu uamageuVby-men leaning oh (hem with their dirty clothes; A great many people are in the habit of lolling and sitting on tbe counters, which is a great source of annoyance to the merchants and clerks. You certainly can stand up long enough to transact your business,

counters and stacks of goods, Worthiugton Times, Prof. Calvert has recently made the interesting discovery by practical tests, that the carbonates of potash and soda possess the same projierty of protecting iron and steel from rust as do those alkalies in s caustic state. Thus it is found that, if an iron blade be immersed in a solution of either of the above carbonates, it exercises so protec tive aa aotion that that portion of the iron which is exposed to the influence of the damn atmospheric lair does not oxidise, even after so extended a period as two years. Similar results, it appears, have also been obtained with sea . water, on adding to the same the oarlwnate of potash ansLoda iu suitable proportion. N.
