Evaasville is a enod eitr, with seven railroads centering tbere, but it seems to be lurking in the activity ami progress tbat mark tbe towns in the interior. This is true of JeSersonvHIe and New A'bany, although the former bas e large manufactory of military aappliea thai helps it along. Jt lie weot of Cincinnati, about midway between Svw Albany and Indianapolis. It is. not especially favored by location or agmaborol surroundings and yet within a few years it baa developed into a busy city and a pretty one. A notable instance of rapid and phenomenal growth in a quiet way, .s that of the town of Bleoaiingtnn, 40 ariles west of Columbus, 00 the Monon railway. This place in 180 had 2,756 inhabitants, but some six years ago it suddenly woke op, factories were organised, a new.State Uuiversity site was selected, additions were laid out, and the work of building up the place Ibegnh: and all this without anv 1 :- - - -- !l 1 :1 Lnriuriii. n . m.m nuicil III has a .population of over wur tnnosana, a rurnmire factory belonging to Showers liros. is shipping three tar leads of tbe factory's products eaeb day ; a hub aad spoke factory belonging to Wakirwo, Hill & Bnskirk baa been running day and nibt for two . a . a years wunout tntermtarfion. ana is "'l"g large coatracts wit ; a chair owned oy awmpa ita goods to the United States: DaW 'A O. carry oa an extensive stave aad heading factory . with mitBea contracts beins fillwl for the Standard Oil Co while roller mills, planing mills sod other amaller steam driven establisbments are namerous. The town has tbe deaay electric system, and only lacks a street railroad to make it a foe city. White river is six tec 11 miles away. Mr. HoHaeft was asked if the aateral gas devejfopment throughout the interior ot the State did not have much to do with this change .ia coedttHin of -the river and interior towns; "I think aot," he said. areaaatar Barlala. IndlapolU Sun. The recent death of Mind-reader Bishop and thechnrge made against the doctors in attendance has resulted in bringing to light very many-cases of suspended animation, wherein funeral preparations, and burials, have taken place. At once the question is raised, "Are physicians careful enough in making the tests of death are they always sure that death has taken place ?" It would seem from the many eases presented ail over tbe country that they are not. Dr. V, B. Clarke, ot this city, a few days ago read a paper before tbe Iudiana homeopathic society on this very subject. His conclusions, after an able and careful review of the subject, were
that more care should be observed

death -and suppoited death. "He eited numerous caties.jafsiispended animation, as well as sudden deaths, wherein doctors had without the due precaution of exhaustive tests, announced that death had taken place. "With these facts as a basis, be altered a most timely and im portant warning to physicians to exercise care and judgment in ren dering a decision of -death. "It often happens," he said, "that word eomes to a physicisin that lua patient is dead, and he does hot go again to the house. It may not always be wise to take other peo ple s say-sou such a matter, and it may be necessary for you to verify tho truth of the report, for your awn protection, if for no other reason. I feel impelled to urge upon yoa -the importance of doing something when ailed to a caw ot sudden ileal h. Don't say i Ala is over!' but go. to woik, and work quick. 1 have lu iiny mind three such eases that occurred in this city within three years, whore three rather promineut busiuess mien were stricken, each dying in a very few minutes, and ech in the presence of one or more physicians, who happened to be near, and yet no attempt at arti?ial respiration or the 6uddeu stimulation of the heart by hypodermic injection was made." He then detailed some of the more important, and what may be deemed conclusive, tests, such as applying 'the elec.ric test tor muscular contraction ; make a hypodermic injection of ammonia, if it makes a rod blotch tile is present; stick a pin through the skin quickly and withdraw it, if the hole closes there is life, otherwise tbe -bole remains open ; place t he fingeM l-etweeu you and an artificial light, and close to it, and if any rosy tint can be observed,! here U life : do not fail to look for cir culatory stains at the depeudeut toints ot a botly tbat has Iain a longtime. If found, it is quite a reliable proof of death ; very Sine feathers may lie usd at the nose and month to detect tlie slightest air current from respiration, or. a coo) mirror tor moisture, and the surface of a tumbler full of water on the chest (everything beMTg"hrm arid quiet), will rnHjany chest WWII WW At tlie little urocecdurcs are useless in some cases, as there is' no detectable respiration or circulation, though there is life. He objected, however, to he careless use of electricity, as a flickering spark ul life might be extinguished by a strong current. He aim solemnly protested against baste in burying a person supposed to lie dead, as in eises where the funeral aucceed the day of demise. He also called . attention to the danger of allowing undertakers to place bodies in ice boxes or' to inject embalming fluid into tbe stomach or-veins immediately, or even a few days after the death is believed to have occurred. The paV per throughout was one of rare force and wisdom, and were its contents carefully and conscien tiously followed there would .be little cause for scandal like that which has grown out of the Bishop case in New York, where the knife was used almost immediately after the reported death. . Cabbage Woax Rbmkiuks. An eaatepn gardener has found that tea made of ground cloves, sprinkled on cabbage leaves will ilfill tlie worms. A Hendricks county farmer told us recently that. scalding -water was the "sorest remP, dy he had iound. : It kills the worms and browns the leaves but the cabbages grow ri.ght along, all the same. Baoqino Grapes If ywi intend to bag your gmpva, or any part of them, now is tne time to do it. Grocers' quart bags are the thing. Place them carefully over the .bunches, and tier them at the top, not ioo tightly, but enough eo to keep the rain out. If the grapes are inclined to rot this will pre-, vent the tendency, awl give perfect and handsome duster. Qua who tried the plan last year says : bagged 60Q bunches, embrauing 30 varieties! qt grapes. The difference was so marked in oiiniparisou with the exposed hunches that I hope to bug 1,000 bunches next year. The grape would have been lost or rniued by frost wit hout their paper covering, - ..Mfnaan, , " SHys the Princeton Clarion: "The wheat is so large in this locality that not one Uiudci' out of a dozen will bind half .iroufitd with- i out choking, though uo fuutt of the machine.
