At intervals for a year or more rumors have been heard that the Louisville, New Albany & Chica go Company was thinking serious ly of building a line ot road from Indianapolis to New Albany. The matter is again the subject of dis cussion at present, A preliminary survey, it is said, win no maae in a lew weeks. 1 he proposed route will be directly south from Indiana polis until it strikes the old line to Chicago about ten miles norm oi New Albany. It is estimated such a road would shorten the Morion's distance between Louisville & Chi cago fifty miles and thus make it much the shortest route between the cities. The present Monoo line, south of Greeneastle, is famous as the cruoUedest road in the State. It was built when engineers considered the cost of ffcat construction more than the necessity for competition with straight roads, aud consequently the track follows stream? and depressions to avoid deep ruts and grades aud tuuuels.
