A CteaiB aad Able Caadldate. We have seen - nothing from a reputable Democratic source in the way of disparagement of General Harrison's. ability,;nothing in fact from any source' questioning bitintellectual aad' vwral fitness for the great office of President of the United States. There is, of course, much said against his views on public questions, ss there is much said against the principles of the party of which he in all respects is folly snd fairly representative, but he stands the glare of publicity in his professional and personal life as few men could. No plea for charitable oblivion is asked for any part of his life and we protest that this is a fact that should not be wholly overlooked lest we come to believe that a clean and honorable life possesses no charm for the American people. It is an entirely legitimate campaign issue to be made use of in favor of our candidate. We do not believe in a personal campaign in the sense of assailing the private life of a.eandidate but we do believe in a personal campaign that calls attention to the unassaailable life, private and oubltc, of such au honorable and able man ss Benjamin Harrison. And when it can be done through the voice of a Democrat we take especial pleasure in. it as we do now in quoting the words of Congressman Byoum, of inuiaospoiis . .. I regard Harrison in every sense of the word a man of fine ability. The fact is that he is a much better hash than be gets credit for among some classes, tie naa a clean record j nobody can complain of a single stain against his character, and this is much in his favor. Taking everything into consideration, I consider General Harrison as good a candidate as the Republicans could put in the field. Indiana Christian Advocate: The nomination of General Harrison at Chicago ought to be gratifying to all good mu, whether they agree with him politically or not. Few men in public or private life are more exemplary in their moral character and daily walk. With bis political views we have nothing to do in these columns, but we commend his life as worthy the imitation of all young men. Up to date Cleveland has vetoed 136 pension bills, many ot which were passed by a unanimous vote of both bouses of congress. Jje the good work go on. After next March we will havea president whose neck is not tootuVk to bend to the will of the people a expressed by their reprsscntativA,
