Bat bore is the creature too selfish to not sympathize irith her aelf-com-piacency? A woman is always more interested in a marriage (whether her SWA or another's) than any other eeremony in the world. Of coarse the bridal dress is the aunt important part of the whole affair; ber traveling suit, her bridesonuds' dresses, the wedding breakfast, nd even the ring itteif pale into insigaifieance before it Its outlines, its materia, its garniA STATELY BRIDE. tore mist all harmonize exquisitely. Some brides of the past season have selected moire silks, others the soft aillu, but the bridal dreasia its perfection is of soft, heariest satin. It eaa never ham a permanent rival, although the quantities of cheap cotton-backed satin now so easily procured has dona lometbing toward bringing it into disreputeIn the pure white satin bride's-dress we illustrate is shown just how every (old should fall and just how the gossamer bees should be arranged. The long pleated train is exceedingly foil sad stately in effect. The absence of orange flowers is decided this year. The proper bouquet for a bride to-day is one of pore white roses and feathery maidenhair ferns. From it should give bontonniere to each of her ohureh ushers. As for her T3, it should ba fastened with jeweled pins to her small, high coiffure and bang with airy lightness. ' The bodiee is nndoobtedlv the most important part of a costume. Upon its outlines, its perfect fit, its ornamentation, a dressmaker devotes her best enerirj. Tb most novel feature pertaining to them this season is their diversified trim ming. They still appear ent decollete in heart-soaped fronts; square in front, TKSCY BODICES. with a deep V in the back, however, is certainly the most popular. The first fancy bodice we illustrate has the square neck openiig over a - beaded chemisette. This is . a copper red peau de soie costume and the beadi are dull copper-colored ones. From the point of the bodice, curving gracefully over one shoulder, is a band of dark-blue plash, while the outlines of the opposite side are shown in a bead edging corresponding to the chemisette. Short puffed sleeves of tho silk are added. This bodice is becoming to slender and plump figures alike. White and colored laces are unboundedly in favor, and will certainly continue so throughout the entire summer. Our second fancy bodice is a desirable evening waist for a white French lace tunic over moire silk. As shown, these bodices are extremely decollete, the shoulder coverings being mere straps. In fact, one might say that low-necked dresses had reached
their height, or would yon say depth f This moire waist in pure milk white has a lace applique stomacher, and
sprays of pale apple blossoms on the right shoulder. No lady's wardroba is complete without a black small wrap. She may have coats and jackets stylish and comfortable; bat when she wishes to be perfectly dressed for returning calls, attending afternoon teas and recep tions, she must have a handsome, dressy wrap. The newest ones hare only short semblances of sleeves. For their trimming all kinds of jot passementerie, galloons, fringes and lares are utilized, sometimes every one of them being seen -on a garment, but of course they must be skillfully com bined so as not to make the garment seem over-loaded. Striped bengaline forms the founda tion of one which has its shoulder sleeves finished with pleatings of French lace; over the shoulders are placed bands of jet galloon, and' heavily jetted tape fringe finishes the lower edge of the garment proper. Maid mf Gran. The girl of -fashion, she who has just emerged from school, who is making a text of culture and a habit of grace, gees along the promenade for a constitutional or a call without as muoh as a coin in her hand. "Visiting cards are kept in the carriage-pockafc or the enff of her jacket; a tiny breast-pocket in her cost or wrap holds her car-fare; all bundles and parcels are delivered by messenger, and absolutely nothing is carried in her hand but "gentle peace." - And do you know the price of this grace? Not less than a term of Delsarto training, a tuition fee of tf, and persistent self-consciousness. There are attitudes for the fingers that go to make the hands expressive whether the arms are hung, swung, bent or curved. In the turning of the palms one may read or.assert pleasure, aversion, tolerance, indignation, wel come, sympathy, excitement, fear, or the whole category of feeling. The style is an admirable one, and illnstav war mm, ovnen' riding can, a girl's breeding. The Huaf fa Oofeff Out of JFaghion. The bustle and large tonruure are going out of fashion. There can be no doubt about the truth of this assertion, but it may ba two years before both will entirely disappear. Parisian dresses, especially thos for street wear, are not so boufiant as those worn last winter. In bustles there is a decided change. Instead of the pronounced hump jusi below the waist, the bustle is arranged to curve gradually from the iratst-line, and with the dress reeds lnnst form a foundation over which the drapery will fall in an unbroken slanting lino to the edge of the dress. Many of the ball dresses are made to be worn without bustles and have three reeds in the back of the skirt. Afternoon gowns of thin white goods are made in the same way, and there is no gainsaying their comfort is not beyond that of the dress to be wora with wire bustle. Princesse dresses with trains are being revived by a few modistes, but fashionable tosto is as yet not quite ready for them. A Bnibfc Snfrvr (tore far Cmrtm. There are comparatively few Nevi York girls in the u'tra-fashionable sel who wear the regulation corset. Host of them are so slender that stays art not needed except to keep the waisl trim and shapely, and this w.mt is sup plied by tiny little pointed corsaleti that are laced on each morning. These corselets do not cover the bust, a nd thui leave the lungs with plenty of breathing-room and the chest an opportunity to expand. The active exercise of tennis and Badminton, bowling and swimming, just now most popular, has forced the stifi corsets out of favor, and it is probable that as long ss it is the fashion to be healthy they will not beworn. i'mief-a. Pretty dressing gowns are composed of plain and striped molloton or fine cashmere in light shades, trimmed witl a plastron or band of plush, to suit the individual taste. The Coming American. The gradual change of the American Anglo-Saxon into a typo resembling that of the Iroquois and Cherokees and other Indian tribes, bos been observed by a host of writers; and among the agricultural population of the West, any European traveler might be startled to meet with stalwart, eagle-faced men of pure white blood, but so strangely resembling Indians in face and form that they could readily pass for halfbreeds. German physicians established iu the United States have summed up in a most impressive way thetie physical changes. With the second or third generation, Indian feature,! appear. The European color, fades - out; tho glandular system becomes reduced to its minimum ; the skin becomes dry as leather, and loses its warm tint. The skull becomes smaller ami becomes rounder or pointed; the hair darkens and becomes straight and smooth. The neck lengthens, tho jaw becomes massive. The cheek-bones enlarge and become prominent; the sockets of the eyes very deep. The eyes aire net more closely to one another; and their expression is savage and piercing. Tho eyes darkens. The larynx enlarges, and the voice become hoarse and shrill. The bones of tho extremities lengthen without brondpnirtff that cloves are expressly manufactured in Paris and London for the United States with exceptionally long fingers. Other extraordinary changes also appear in the skeleton. Within twelve generations, all the positive signs of now race formation have made themselves manifest among the people of the United States; what then will the population be within another 200 years? That the Americans are becoming an eagle-visaged people in certain, and that many Indian physical - characteristics are being developed among the original American population is indubitable. But tho future race promises to be something far superior, not only to the Indian, but superior to any race now existing superior physically, in activity, endurance, force; superior mentally, in rapidity of comprehension, foresight, analytic perception. There will bo no tribe-difforences beyond a doubt; the American of tho raeiho and Atlantic slopes will not resemblo each other in all things; nor will the fixed populations of the South resemble those of the North in the twenty-first century of modern history. AW Orleans Times-Democrat. J Killing WolTwWitli Whalebone. Lieut Schwatka savs that "one use of the whalebone to which ths Esquimaux iput it, and one case which como under my personal observation, I must not allow to pass unnoticed. Whenever wolves have been unusually predatory, have destroyed a favorite dog or so, or dug up a cache of reindeer meat just when it was needed, or in any way nave aroused the ire of the Innuit hunter, he takes a strip of whalebone about the size of those used in corsets, wraps it up into compact holical mass like a watcn spring, naving previously sharp'ened both ends, then ties it together Iwith reindeer sinew, and plasters it with a compound of blood and grease, which is allowed to freeze, and forms a binding cement sufficiently strong to bold tho smew string at every second or third turn. This, with a lot of sinu-lar-lookine baits of meat and blubber. is scattered over the snow or ground, and the hungry wolf devours it along with the others, and when it is thawed out by the warmth of his stomach, it elongates and has the well-known effect of whalebone on tho system, but, having the military advantage of interior lines, its ofl'ccta are more rapid, killing the poor wolf, with the most horrible agonies, in a coup e of day."
