The machinery of tha law cannot be put at work too speedily

or too vigorously agafoat the wholesale adulteration of the tl .s we cat. Both the health and the pockets of the people demand

protection.

There ia no artiole of food in general use mow wickedty adul

terated than the lower grades of baking powder.

For raising bread, biscuit or other food only the very heat and

purest baking powder should be employed. Tlie use of the otdtiir aryxream oi tartar, or of baking powders containing lime-, alum ami phosphates, carries deleterious ingredicuts itjto the food to the

prejudice of. the life and health of the consumer.

The sale of adulterated baking powders has been pruhmitort

by atatnte in several localities. It will be in the interests ot tlie public health when their sale is made a misdemeanor everywhere,

and the penalties of the law are rigidly enforced.

The ordinary baking powder contains either lime, which,

introduced into the system in too free quantities, causes serious disorders of the kidneys; alum,a corrosive poison, or limo phosphates, which are condemned by physicians as deleterious iu their effect

when taken under certain physical conditions. The Royal is the only baking powder on the market that is free from lime.

alum and phosphates, and absolutely pure.

The absolute purity of the lloyal Baking Powder makes it

pre-eminently the most useful and wholesome leavening agent known. Containing no lime, alum, phosphate or other impurity,

it leaves no alkaline or other residuum in the food, and its use

alwavs insures pure, light and sweet bread, biscuit and cake, that are perfectly digestible and wholesome whether hot or cold, fresh or stale. Its leavening power has been determined the highest whenever tested by official authority, and all chemists and writers

on. food hygiene commend it for its sterling qualities.
