Mrs. Eva Wilson, of Coulterville, Ilia., daughter of Mr. David Smith, east of town, arrived at her old home last Friday evening, on a visit to relations. There arc twelve grocery stores in Bloomington, and ten stores where dry goods, etc., are sold. A stranger would never know this by looking over the local papers.

They were thirty-one in number,
and with the exception of two fitted perfectly. In these the sleeves were too short, but they have been
returned and will soon be remedied.
On Thursday last Capt. Fields
and Joe Allen left Bloomington
for Wichita, Kansas. Cap. has
two lots that cost bim $250 each,
and he is undecided whether to take $800 for them or to hold for another advance. Allen has some
lots, also, and may want to sell,and prefers to be on the ground when
the transfer is made.
An alarm of fire on Thursday
forenoon brought out the fire department with a rush, but before they had gbne a square they were re-called, the fire having been extinguished. It begun in the Lnnderman building, sooth of Dr. Maxwell's office, on College Avenue, and was found to be burning in a bed up-stairs. The building is occupied by a half dozen families. It will bo remembered that Mr. Mackey had something to do with the Cincinnati and Terre Haute railroad project, which it was claimed some years ago he sold out to otber companies, after aid had been voted in this and other coun-

Mrs. Martin, aunt of Prof. Spangler, is the guest of Prof. S. and wife. People have become somewhat nervous in the past ten days, and the strokes of the town clock are liable to be mistaken, fora fire alarm. At 6:30 a. m. on Wednesday people who had scarcely recovered from their labors and fright at the fires ot preceding days were again startled by the alarm bell, and it was found that the residence of Mrs. M. A. Dunn,on east 4th street, was enveloped in flames. So quickly did the fire do its work that there was only time to save a portion of the contents before the entire structure, a handsome two-story residence, was falling in a mass of b tight coals and darting flames. The fire begun between tbe ceiling and the roof in the ell, and is supposed to have resulted from a defective flue.

Laura, aged two years, daughter of Charles and Martha Sluss, died on April 1st. Mrs. Kale Henderson, daughter of Harvey Phillips, died at her home in Harrisburg, Ohio last week. Decatur, Ala., on Thursday, having

the thigh bono. Mrs. Isabella Smith, widow of John Smith, who will be remembered as a well known fruit raiser, east of town, died on Thursday last, after a week's illness, iu her 72d year. Hemp, Wilson arrived in town from Wichita and Hutchinson, Knsae, on Thursday. Wilson thinks there is a better chance for a man of moderate capital at Hutchinson than at Wichita. George Jackson, who for the past four years has been confined to the house with an affection of the nervous system, contracted while engaged in the railroad service, is improving slowly. There was a noticeable scarcity of good looking men in town last week, the members of the legal fraternity had gone to Faoli in force, to atteud the Grimes-Fedigo trial. The members of the fire dc-
