Lahlnn and Lena Ray, have been licensed to marry Between twenty and twenty-five persons left foi Pensacola, Fla., and intermediate pointe, yesterday evening and this morning. The round trip rate was only 117.70. Chas.Robertson, John Cletnnions,and Hemp. Wilson among the number W. B. Baker has sold his one-third interest in the Dunn & Co. grocery to Charley Miller. Mrs. Mellett, nee Dunn, of Muncie,has been visiting her mother in this city, and leaves for Watertown, Dak., on Thursday. Arrasteead Brown, a young colored man who for some time has worked with John Brown, died on Sunday after an illuess of one week, with pneumonia. Ou Sunday night a pane ot glass was cut ont of Dunn & Co.'s store for the second time, and cigars, tobacco, etc., taken. This is becoming somewhat monotonous, and the firm are tired of it. Mrs. Jos. N. Cron gave a party in honor of Miss Lillie James, on Friday evening latt, at her resdence on west 6th street. Miss James who has spent the winter here, will return to Spencer this week to remain. Mrs. East, mother of John R., died suddenly on Monday evening, aged about seventy years. She had gone to a neighbors hurriedly, for some medicine for her son-in-law, Bud Sare, who had aken sick, and was overcome by excitement and exertion, dyiug in a fesv minutes, Henry Ward Beecher, one of the greatest men of the period, was stricken with paralysis ou Friday
last, and at the hour of going to
piess was sinking rapidly, with no hope of recovery. Mr. Beecher,
during the past twenty years, has
been one of the prominent characters of America, and his death will be sincerely mourned by thousands of his fellow citizens.

started on his rounds and numerous
persons have beou grievously swindled by signing what purported te
be a fair and honest contract but which turned out to be a grand
swindle. Again we say to our
farmers and others who wish to purchase lightning rods, bo careful what you sign or you will certainly be swindled. Why ninetenths of lightning rod peddlers are swindlers we cannot tell, but such seems to be the fact, and it is

Rev. Mr. Givler preached in Indianapolis on Sunday last. . Jean Adkins is home on a visit and will remain till April. Theodore Cravens sold his lots in Wichita, this week, at a profit of $1,400. The wife of Robert Palmer, a former student of I. S. U., died at her home in Bedford, Saturday. Mr. Walters of 1. S. U. went to Richmond, Ind., to be present at the wedding of Mr. Bunnell, a former well known student. Mr. W. W. Wicks returned from Cincinnati on Wednesday last, having been on a tour after new spring goods. Prof. John Carr, of the High School, preached in the M. E. Church, on Sunday last, in the absence of the Pastor. Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Harris of EUettsville, will celebrate the eleventh anniversary of their marriage to-day Wednesday. The widow of the late Michael Malott, known to many here, died at her home in Bedford last Saturday. Mrs. Braxtan and C. P. Tuley attended the tuneral. On Monday morning Len. Fields, Simp. Neeld, Joe Allen and Ben. Rogers left Bloomington for Wichita, Kansas, the booming city of the west. Charley Mobley has brought on a fine stock of spring goods, and a large quantity of thtm. Mobley has a "knack" of selling a great many goods in a quiet way. Mrs. Mary (Bollenbacher) Northcot, of Vcvay, Ind., with her two children, arrived in Bloomington la U Friday, on a isit to her mother's family. The young men in McCalla & Co.'s have been getting their handsome store room in order for the display of the immense stock of dry goods recently purchased by Mr.M. in Chicago. The latest scheme of swindling is the towel and shawl racket. These peddlers lake your order for the towels and induce you to buy a shawl. The towels never come,and the shawl turns out to be worthless. Nina Van Zaudt has lost her
suit with the dime museum man
who was exhibiting a wax figure representing her. She will henceforth be exhibited in wax. With her wax representation locked up in a dime museum, and with her proxy husband locked up in jail, poor Nina is in a bad way. Mrs. John Sluss returned, last Friday, from a visit to Spencer, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. F. T. Batterton. Mr. B. is on a visit to his family, his present residence being in southwestern Kansas.where he has "proved up" a valuable laud claim. Mr. Batterton is enthusiastio over the future of Kansas, and predicts its great growth, while deprecating "booms."

Louden and wife spent a portion of last week at the home of Mr. Louden 'a father, in Fayette county. Thos. Y. Rader, well known in this county, was married Monday a week to Mrs. Smith of Greencastle. A. Gabe, Miss Mattie Buskirk and Mrs. Thornton of Bedford, spent a portion of last week in Indianapolis. Oscar Reed came home last Wednesday on a visit to his parents.
