A splendid crop ot oats has oecn harvested and the yield is entirely
satisfactory io most localities. But little of this article will be market

The early potato crop promises a

AUDITOR'S ANNUAL REPORT. THE UNDERSIGNED. AUDITOR, submits the following Keport of Receipts
and Expenditures of Monroe county, Indiana, for the year ending Hay 31, 16H6:
About 150 clerks have been
dismissed from the departments in
'Washington, during the past week
Among them were many old and
trusted men and veterans. There
will be no Republicans in Govern
ment offices when 1888 rolls round
Tbe south is moving in the right direction. Montgomcry.Ala.,
will not allow obscene literature to
be sold or .circulated within its Km
its. Here is an example that our
northern brethren would do well to
follow, to protect the youth from
such evil influences. The Republican candidates before the coming convention for the various State offices are, so far, as follows : Secretary of State, I. N. Chambers of Knox, Fritz Writters of Poesy, W. L. Dnnlap of Johnson, Charles L. Griffin of Lake, Addison. M. Baldwin of Great ; ' Auditor, Americas (?. Daily of Boone, Bruce Carr of Orange; Clerk of Supreme Coort, Simeon T. Yancy of Hancock, Davis S. Whittaker ot Greene, W. H. Noble of Warren, John N. Wheatley of Bartholomew ; Treasurer of State, David E. Beem of Owen, N. S. Byram of Marion, Morris McDonald of Floyd; Attorney-Genera), John W. Lovett of Madison, Lewis T. Michener of Shelby ; Superintendent of Public Instruction, Scott Butler -of Marion, J no. M. Olcott of Putnam and E. . Smith of Tippecanoe.
The meeting of the Republican State Central Committee was largely attended last week, and encouraging reports were received from all portions of the State. Secretary Michner read his report, of which the following is an extract : "There were 1,012 trustees elect
ed in the State, of which number
we elected 523, the Democrats 486
and the Independents three. The Republican majority over the Dem
ocrats is 37, and tbe Republican net gain over the preceding election is 67. The Republicans elected 549 assessors, the Democrats 461,
and tbe independents two. Our
majority over tbe Democrats is 88,
net gain of 68 over tbe preceding
election. It was found impossible
to get the official vote in the most of the counties of the State, owing to the fact that the law does not require that there shall be any re-
torn made to tbe county clerk of
the vote cast, but the figures i
ceived from the other counties, where tbe official figures were ob
tained, indicate that we carried the
State by a handsome majority.
"In the city and town elections we did welL In the fifty-three cities from which I have re parts
we elected z3W of the ofnoers, the
Democrats 159, and the independents 1 ; our majority over the Deuioorats being 77, and our net
gain 22. In the 123 towns reported to me we elected 465 officers.the
Democrats 193, and the independents 1 ; our majority over the Democrats being 272, and our net gain
82. There are twenty counties which have not reported to me as to their town and city elections."
Perry Township No. 4. The
farmers have been taking advantage of the fine weather the past week, and the result is many are
through with their harvesting. Wheat, oats and grass all in stack,
and generally in fine condition.
The people of Perry arc ready
to give thanks tor the abundant harvest, and if Grover don't hurry up his proclamation, we'll give
thanks any way, uood crops always precede a grand Republican victory vice-versa.

Geo. Stepp sold a calf last week
that weighed 2,180 lbs.

can raise all the blackberries they
need, but for some reason many
well regulated families haven't a berry only what they steal. John Crafton was on his farm last week, with bis coat off and his sleeves rolled up, and mowing with the "Arm strong" machine. Whenever anybody says John is not a farmer, he's off. All that had the necessary $1.50 took in the excursion to Fails City. Some projile are born poor, and always have to stay at home. Peter J. A Literary Coup D'Eiat. Of all the surprises to wbich the read
ing public has been treated by Mr. Alden's
surprising Literary Revolution, perhaps
tbe most remarkable is the lust.
Two of the choicest and most famous
books in modern literature, "Washington Irvine's "Tho Sketch Book" and "Knick
erbocker's History of New York," are just
published is style worthy cf this most widely celebrated and universally honored, of Ameirean authors. The two books together form one of the nine volumes of
bis works also just publisnea. ine type is largCjleaded, beautiful ; the two volumes bound in one comprise 608 pages ; the binding is Half Morocco, marbled edges. The only other edition in tbe market that
at all compares with this or rivals it, is
advertised by tbe publisher at $4.00 per volume. Mr. Alden's price when told in sets of nine vo'.umes, is a little less than $1.00 per volume. He now offers this single specimen volume until September 1st, 1886, for the price (if it can be called a price) ot 50 cants, by mail, postage paid. The offer is without restriction or condition ; if there are a hundred thousand, or half a million of those who take pleasure in the works of Washington Irving, who want the volume, ho says he will fill their orders as fast as their printers and binders can turn them out. If you want to complete your set after you nave received this volume, you can, of eourse do so by paying the additional price for the set. Tbe object of this extraordinary "Coup D'Etat'' is of course advertising; except for this consideration the price would be ridiculous and ruinous. Mr. Alden sends his complete Condensed Catalogue of standard books free to any applicant, or bis Illustrated Catalogue, 132 page, for four cents. Address John B. Alden, Publisher, 393 Pearl Street, New York.
