The meeting of the State

Board of Education resulted .in the election of the members whose term

of office had expired Jenkinson,

"Robertson and Mitchell. Prof. Garner lias prepared and

had printed a very ingenious and instructive chart illustrating the growth and development of the

Fine Arts, and has placed the Progress under obligations for a copy. There seems to he -quite a contest for positions on the School

Board. The term of Prof. Cole

will expire and the election take place at the first meeting in June. The candidates are Prof. Cole and Drs. Axteld aaid MuGee. Albert Faris, Kearney Buskirk, Dr. Rogers and Jean Adkins left tot the banks of Salt Creek on Tuesday morning, equipped for fish and game. A half-dozen stave wagons may be required to haul home the "catch."

and recognition for his services how

Two of the most pains-taking and earnest of the officers of this class that Monroe county has ever had are W. M. A. Kirby and John Harrell. We don't knowthat these gentlemen will be candidates for reelection, but if they are they should be promptly nominated. The commissioners get a great amount of blame for acts over which they have ho control whatever. For illustration, the expeuses of courts

are allowed by the Judge of circuit court, and the commissioners have no voice in the transaction: the

Chambers trial, the trial ot Wm. Welch and the Allen case, cost
