Word was brought to Bloomingtou ob Tuesday evening of a cold-blooded murder, perpetrated in Greene county, between Sokerry and Newark. It seems Aat a
vegto bad been employed by James Detent (a cousin of Frank Dobson
-of this place), and that for some fended grievance, on Monday nigbt
at about 12 o'clock, the negro en
tend Dobson's bouse, and with an
ax crushed bis skull while he lay in bed beside his wife. He is said
to be a rough, vicious looking fel-
Ifow, and officers reached this place
to pursuit of him last night. . THE JjTEGBO ARESTE,
Knee the above was pot in type the negro has been captured, and has been placed in the jail here.
H was found at the residence of I
John Brown (colored). He first applied to a man named Johnson and told him he had killed a man.
Johnson then refused to harbor Man. hat directed him to John
Brown's house. The murderer's feet are badly
frozen. He talks freely about the murder, and says that lie "got op in hie sleep" and killed Dobson. The wife of Dr. Jos. G. McPheeters, who was prostrated some
two weeks ago by a stroke of pa
ralysis, died last night (Tuesday) at about nine o'clock. Mrs. Mc-
Pheeters was a woman of kind and
gentle disposition, and was beloved by all who knew her. The election for Bank Direc
tors occurred on- Tuesday. The following named gentlemen were luvn : Jno. Waldron. Walter
Woodburn, Nat. U. Hill, P. K.
Boskirk and Henry C. Duncan. The officers are the same as hereto

AN ARGUMENT FOR THE

It is said that nearly all the objections to the nominations sent to the Senate by the President come from Democrats, and in some eases they have piled up stacks of evidence why certain persons should not be confirmed.
"Yes, yon may very properly eill

Pointing to a microscope under
wrtioh lav an aired and worn one

through that microscope was absolutely astonishing. In addition to
ilie incrustations of dirt, which seem

"Surprising? not at all," said the nkmn. "When one considers
the number of hands in various conditions of dirtiness that piece of currency has' passed through, the many dirty and greasy pockets and pocket books it has reposed in, and the other different sources ot nastiness it has come into contact with since its first issue from the bank it wnuM he more remarkable were it
in a cleaner condition than it is."
"What led you to make a microscopical examination of the bank note.?" "Well. I am oursuinff some in

than saying tnat paper currency, niter havincr been in circulation a

At a recent marriage in Ohio the bride, a Miss Morris, wore a dress that was imported trom Paris in 1742, for a wedding, and has been in the family every Bince, being used only on such occasions. It was worn again in 1776 as a wedding dress but not again till the other day, when Miss Morris donned it. Not a stitch has been altered or added to it, and it is in almost as good condition as when new. The Concert and "Japanese

Walnut St. Presbyterian Church at College Chapel last night, was an interesting affair. The music was
very fine, and tbe Japanese business was both novel and curious.. The program was as follows;
