Cleveland is pretty sure, if he lives, to serve out his term as Governor. Cleveland had better freeze on to that Long Branch cottage. It is a surer thing than the Presidency. The true independent in politics is the one who takes drinks from the candidates of both parties. Gen. Butler ia not expected to contribute greenbacks to the Cleveland canvass, but be may give it a check. It is not the procession that takes part in a street parade, but the procession on election day that tells for a political party. A campaign poet has discovered that appendix rhymes with Hendricks. The appendix is supposed -to be Clevelaud. Mr. Cleveland being a bachelor, no woman by his defeat will be disappointed in her ambition to be lady of the White House. And that ought to count for something. The Kingston poet entitles an epic, "Cleveland our Cincinnatus." This looks a good deal like an attempt to pass the Democratic candidate off for an Ohio man. Senator Bayard's opponents looked up his rebellion record in time to run him off the Presidential track, but candidate Hendricks's record, which is a great deal worse, seems to have been overlookedt Ohio hits a curiosity in a man who can be flattened oui like a pancake and .rolled nh like a cr.rpet. After the first week in Novt-inbcr it will be found that just such n man lives in New York, and hU name is Cleveland. -:- Will John Kelly liarraouizc ?" asks an anxious nnti-Blnino organ.
