Such a thing as square playing they do not expect of each other, so when they play poker they seek other than professional opponents." The most remarkable of recent sales of land is the transfer of of 60,000 acres in North Carolina to a eslewy of Menonites from Bussin. It is remarkable both because
of its indication of the increase of
immigration in the south, and because of its exhibition of the inclination of the Menonites to establish themselves in the U. S. Although their conscientious scruples against bearing arms have been respected to some extent by the Czar, they evidently regard the United States as. the country where war is the least probable, and in coming here that they may live in peace, and also increase their pecuniary prosperity. They are among the most industrious and frugal of immigrants, and North Carolina is to be congratulated upon having secured a large colony of them. SCSMtT SUBJECTS. The antimony mines In Mkatiflaippi

Xeeatng fwaltry la Orchards. This is a matter that should be prae Heed when possible. We believe that if farmers and fruit-raisers knew the benefits arising from such management tbey would at once adopt it Last fall we visited an orchard in which fowls were kept; tbs owner of which told us
that befomtae fowls were confined in it, the trees nude little or no growth, and only a corresponding amount of
fruit was obtained. But what a change
was evident now. The gram was kept
down, the weeds killed and the trees
presented an appearance of thrift, which the most enthusiastic horticulturist could not bnt admire and envy. The growth of the tmm was most vigorous, and their foliage remarkably luxuriant. The fruit was abundant, of large sise
asd free from worm and other im per
fections. Tnisexceuenee was accounted far by the proprietor, who remarked that the bens ate all the worms and eoreullo in their reach, even the canker worm. Ha found toss trouble with their roosting in trees than he expected, and that a picket fence six feet high kept them within bounds. II is orchard
is divided into three sections, and the
fowls were changed from one to another, as the condition of the fowls or the orchard section seemed to require.
