A newspaper man is expected to be everywhere, see everything ami catch every item afloat, simply because it is his profession. But he can't do it. Ilk friends can help him thoojrh by sending or bringing in such items of interest as mav chance to come under their notice. All manner of legitimate local news go to make up an interesting local newspaper, and will be received with thanks.

The Lowell News appears to favor the idea that the cost of side walks should be borne, not by the owners of lots along which they are built, but by the public for whose use they are required. In doing so it favors simple justice. We have made the greatest effort of our lives to secure fur the coming spring season the most attractive and complete line of Dry Goods, Boots, Shoes etc., which wc propose to sell at the lowest prices. Come and examine our White Goods. We can show you just as fine a line of Laces and Embroidery as you can find in New York, Philadelphia or Chicago, and can sell them just as cheap as any house can buy them, we having, purchased before the rise in the price of White Goods. McCaixa & Co.

Constable Jones held ao execution against a fanner, and when he called for settlement the agriculturist took him out into a big pasture and pointed ont a wild steer as the particular piece of property to be levied upon. Jones chased the steer around for awhile, and then sat down, and taking out his book, began to write. "What are you doiog there?' asked the j. ranker. ' Charging - mileage," replied the constable, without look up. "Do I have it all to pay?" gasped the rancher. "You bet." "Then take this tame heifer here. I can't stand any such game as that." Have yon seen our spring Dress Goods? The variety is greater and effect mare beautiful than the previous year. Some lovely Checks, in various soft shades of Cbartrejiuse, Modes, Olive, and Bronze. They are of an impressive character and genteel enough to please the most fastidious. McCalla a Co.

By order of the Monroe county Republican Central Committee, the Republicans of Van Buren tp. met in convention at their usual place of voting, March 18, 1882, at 1 p. m., for the purpose of nominating a Republican township ticket. On motion Joseph Eunger was chosen Chairman, and James Dodd Secretary. They then proceeded to make a ticket, which resulted in the following: Trustee, Jonas R. May; Road Snp't., Melvia Saaburn ; Assessor, Thomas Eller; Justice of the Peace, Lewis Jones; Constables (dog killer), Dock Thresher and Frcehtnd G. Koons. There were qnite . number of voters out, the highest number of votes cast at any one thne being 77 lor Road Sopt, the votrs on all candidates ranged from 54 to 77. The very best of feeling prevailed, and it is

due to nay that the Republicans of

Van JtSnrea tp. are working together harmoniously and with the intention of electing their entire ticket as well as to show their colors at the Fall election. Score one for old Van Buren.
