As compared with offices in other counties, how do yoq findt these of Monroe. ? Riley Y'erX wc" Hery wejl .lo? deed j particularly the Clerk's of fice j I tif ink it is managed as welt, if not better, than any office I have yet investigated. The rircords are kept by Wall. Browning, the Deputy, and are, without exception, the neatest, and contain fewer errors, than the books of any clerk I have ever known, and I have had occasion to examine so many that I ought to be considered a competent j udge in such matters. Rep. Are not he, other offices managed well ? Riley. Yes, but there is so much record work in the Clerk's office, and there has been such a vast amount of it done in the pas) seven years that it is very noticeable. The people of the county may well be proud of such an officer, as they are exceedingly rare in Indiana, and when they are found should be retained. Rep. Are you not a little extravagant in your statements, Mr. Riley. Riley No, sir ; I only ask any unprejudiced man, be he Democrat, Republican or Greenbacker, tq examine the books in the Clerk's office, to prove the truth of njy assertions. It is a matter of business with me, and when I strike a set of well kept books I believe I know it.
