The majority of tbe students left for their homes last Thursday, John W. Buskirk has been attending court in Bedford. The growing wheat never appeared better than now. considerable success, though game

is bfcing thinned out by the mtny

hunters that are being turned loose

on the country by tbe new railroads,

many of which are being built in

the State of Arkansas. Farmers who come to town

this winter declare that the worst

spots of road they find are inside

the corporate limits of the city, vis :

the Labertew bill, and a spot on west

6th street, running parallel with

the Tarkington property. Persons

who travel these roads ought to

come before the council with peti

tion setting up the facts. The .roads of Monroe county

are in a deplorable condition. Cul

and through the blundering of the

last legislature no one has authori

Mr. Editor ; I have been a interested reader of the tickets that have been published in the Progress from time to time, and while some good men have been suggested from the various townships, I notice that there is an evident inclination to ignore the men who have, figuratively speaking, rocked the cradle of tbe Democratic party, in Monroe county, and who deserve something at the hands of.itfi voters. Therefore, permit me to suggest u county ticket as follows : Auditor Aquilla W. Rogers.. Treasurer Milton McPhetridge. Sheriff Elias Abel. Recorder P. L. D. Mitchell. Clerk John Graham, jr. Now hers ia a ticket that I regard as exceptionally good having just enough of young blood in its composition to give it vim, Capt. Fields, the Ellettsville groeeryman, formerly of Blooming

The Loan Exhibition, given last week by the ladies of the Walnut street Presbyterian church, was

a surprise to tnose wuo visueu .

It was surprising that in so short a

space ut time the Indies hud succeeded in securing so. large a number of rare and cu.r3atta articles, and

it was a new surprise that so many valuable relics are in existence in Bloomington and vicinity, though the half were noli collected, it is presumed. The pleasure of a visit to this exhibition, was greatly hightened by the practical explanations giveu by severed of tbe young ladies, who devoted much of their time to necessary branch. An other exhibition will doubtless result in bringing out many odd and curious heir-dooms that for years have remained in their dusty hiding places. Every threadbare plug of a political, speaker of either party, that came to Bloomington during the summer and fall of 1880, was escorted by a brass band to the same old tune. While deeply interested in tbe contents of a well-worn copy of the New Revisiou last Sunday afternoon, our thoughts were drawn toward that "rackety" campaign by one of those escort tunes, performed in the court house yard on shrill brass and resonant sheepskin. Get thee hence, satan, and that p.d.q. Henry Henley's duplex bed spring patent has proved a bonanza to him, he ha vug sold some States as high as $1,500. Mr. Henley
