Orleanism ; fifth, tho right, who desire a monarchy, preferring Henry V. ; and sixth, theextreme right, who believe in extreme legitimist notions, the white flaz of the Pope, and no dynasty not a
thousand years old. No party has a majority, and M. Thiers exists by dealing wilh six parties like a juggler with six eggs on six plates in his bands. He never holds more than one part at a time, and keeps the rest spinning through the air. Political. The official vote of Illinois stands: Grant, 240,378; Greeley, 183,679. Experimenting with Hens. In the Poultry World, Isaac Lynde, of Ohio, pives the rajSblt of an experiment with rlifl'erent breeds of pullets in laying for six months, and the cost of their feed. On September 1 he took ten pullets of each of the breeds mentioned below, about six months old, guve them a yard forty feet square, with a comfortable house, and ke t an exact account of eggs and feed, as follows : The dark Brahmas ate 3691 tjuarta of corn, oats and whent screenings, laid 6!)5
eggs, and weighed seventy pounds. TLie buff Cochins ate 40f quarts, laid 5'l p.ggp, and weighed seventy-three pounds The gray Dorkings ale 409i quarts, laid 523 egg?, and w ighed fifty-nine and ft half pounds. The Houdsus ate 214V quarts, laid 783 eggs, and weighed foriylive and a half pounds. The Leghorns ate 22 U quarts, laid 807 egg?, and weighed thirty-six and a half pounds. To make this experiment more complete, and to show which lot gave the most profit, including both eggs a:ad flesh, we had supposed the fowls to be dressed and (old at the end of nix months at 20 centi per pound ; aho, that the eggs were worth 24 cents per dozen (two cent3 each), and that the cost of the feed was 2$ cents per quart, or 80 cents per bushel. At the recent fair at London, Ontario, there were 2,444 entries of live stock, of which 1,193 were of horses; 432 of cattle; 534 of sheep; 285 of swine. There were in addition 455 fowls exhibited. When poultry or other meat is fresh and good, it has a firm, hard feel, and is ebstic ; tainted meat feels soft, and return to its fhape slowly when indented, like dough when pressed with the finger. Fresh meat, well killed, does not moisten the finger; tainted meat does and has a slimy ieel. For removing grease spots from any fabric, use tho ammonia nearly pure, then lay white blotting paper over the spot, and iron lightly. In washing
