intemperance, together with the inefficiency of our present laws, regulating the liquor traffic, demand, in our judgment, at the hands of our present Legislature, prompt and effectual legislation : Therefore, we the undersigned voters of the County of and State of Indiana, do earnestly and respectfully petition your honorable body, the Legislature of Indiana, now in sessiotl,to enact a statutory regulation of the liquor traffic, embodying the following features, viz: 1st. That the applicant for license to sell intoxicating liquors by retail, shall procure and present to the proper courts, a petition to that effect, signed by n majority of the voters in the Township, Town or Cityward, where said liquors are to be sold. 2d. In addition to this, a law similar to the existing Statutes of Ohio and Illinois, making licensed retail liquor dealers responsible for damages caused by intoxication which they have been instrumental in pro

ducing.
