A former Su.te offieiaJ, and a man who had occupied high positions, not only in the Commonwealth but in the Nation, ha- been on a spree for some days in her classic1 precincts. On Friday he visited Rutin's Banking House, and demanded 50. It was refused hi nv, whereupon he abused the teller like a pickpocket, and had to be ejected. He visited a saloon and asked for a drink of whisky. The bar-tender told him he had none, whereupon he grew so violent that he had to be put out by force. A drunkard, friendless and an outcast sn?h is the fate of one who aspired to be President of the United States. The old State House still stands at Condon, Harrison county, this

A young man named Edward White, started out from his homo near Laurel, Franklin county, last Friday afternoon, with a gun, to kill soiie game for supper, and
nothing was heard of him from that time until he was found by his father nest morning, lying dead in a path leading to his home, and about two hundred yards distant therefrom. A shot hole was found in his throat just under the lower jaw. New Albany has a family of eight children, seven of whom, and their father, have been maimed in one way and another. daughter lost her eye by being shot in it by her brother with an arrow ; one boy lost a foot in a threshing machine, another lost a hand by some other means, another lost two fingers on his right hand, another oue a thumb, another lost some toes by some unfortunate occurrence, and another was run over by a baner's wagon and injured in the back. The mother and youngest child have thus far escaped, but are in mortal fear of a buzz saw. A Lafayette lover seated himself on a barrel turned on its side, while serenading his heart's mistress. I:i Lis ecstasy he rolled the barrel over, slammed his guitar against a shntter in his efforts to regain his balance, and disappeared in the cistern. The bubbling cry of the sr. ron g swimmer in his agony, brought out the entire family, including the Iml I dog, in various brief and picturesque costumes, ranging all the way from an elaborate robe de nuit and curl papers worn by the innocent cause of it all, to a simple yet serviceable collar, ornamented with spikes, worn by the bull dog. V. S. -He was timed out. Not long since a man well-to-do in this world, who resides not rr ore than a mile from our courthouse, lost his wife, at which he seemed overwhelmed with grief. S) boisterous were his manifestations of sorrow that his neighbors concluded they would not disturb or increase his grief by consulting him regarding the funeral obsequies. S) without his knowledge they ordered a plain casket and had his spouse placed in it, when he was t; ken to gaze upon her remains. The first words he uttered when in the room where his dead darling lay in the casket were: "What'd this thing cost ?" Being told that the casket cost 30, he exclaimed: " My God! that would buy another cow!" It is needless to any that suspicion is now rife as to the manerofhis wife's death. New Albany Standard.
