Free ILovc and Spiritualism. Victoria Voodhull,of New York, is a noted spiritualist and free-lover, at least she claims to receive- communications daily, from the spiritworld ; and, living in the sain 3 house
with her is Dr. Woodhull, to whom ; she is married, and Col. Blond to ' whom she is not married. We have ; in our possession, a copy of a small ; book, with the following title : j
"Biography of Victoria C. Wood'
hull, by Theodore Titon." This work is a sugar-coated apology for Victoria's vagaries a very peculiar production, to say the least of it. Theodore, in telling of the frolicksorne Vickey's "linking" with Col. Blood, puts it mildly, thus: ' There is a maxim that marriages are made in heaven, albeit 'contradicted by the Scripture which declares that in heaven there is neither marying or giving in marriage. But, even against the Scripture, it is safe to say that Victoria's second marriage was made in Heaven ; that b, it was decreed bv the self-same smrits she is ever remly to follow, whether they lead her for discipline into tho valley of the shadow of death, or for comfort in '.hose vays of pleasantness wlrch are paths of peace. Col. .lame-, II. BloaJ, commander of -.ho 6th Missouri Regiment, who at t he close of the war was elected City Auditor of St. Louis, who became Presidert of the Society of Spiritualists in that place, and a ho had himself been, like Victoria, the legal partner of a morally sundjrod marriage, called one day on Mrs. Woodhull to consult her as n spiritualistic physician (having never met her before), and was startled to see her pass into a tn.ncc, during which he announced, unconsciously to herself, that his future destiny was to 'be linked with hers in marriage." Thus, to their mutual amazement, but to their subsequent happiness, they were betrothed on the spot by "the powers of the air.'1 The legal tic b; which at first they boand themselves to eaca other was afterwards by mutual consent annulled the necessary form of Illinois law being complied with to this effect. But the marriage stands on its merits, nnd ia to nil who witness its harmony known, to be sweet and accordant union of congenial souls." As Theodore is announced for a Lecture, on the 9th of February, at College Chapel, on the subject of "Home, Sweet Home," perhaps he will tell the audience how sweet Victoria Woodhull's home is, as all have not had an apportunity to read his "Biography of Victoria."

"A lawyer bung out his shingle, in Gowanus, L.I., for two years, and then left, as he had only one case in all that time, and it was inflammatory rheumatism, and nearly killed him.'' This is poor encouragement for the 8,888 young men who are at present studying law, but there is no reason in their acceptance of a case of rheumatism, so long as Bolenbacher keeps a stock of Boots and Rubbers surpassed by none in the town. PersonalsTom Rogers, who has been engaged in the Gro?ery trade, and recently sold to S. M. Thrasher, will, we learn, take a position at Martinsville, as book-keeper for a Sewing Machine Agency. Wm. A. Legg was in town last week. When we last met Mr. Legg he was so emaciated from protracted illness that but few of his friends recognized him. But the medicinal waters and bracing air of Southern Indiana soon restored him to health and he now looks like the Legg of yore. Alex. Sutherland, confined to his bed with rheumatism during the past three months, is improving slowly. Warm weather, and nothiug short of that or a visit to tho Arkansas Hot Springs, we fear, will effect a cure.
Bart. Cole has been confined to; his bed during the past two months, j Mr. Cole, in his youth, performed '
more manual labor than should j have been the allotted portion of
two men, hence an early failure of general health. Dr. Holtzman recently performed an operation upon I
one of Mr. Cole's eyes. John II. Buuger, one of our moat thrifty farmers, after an absence of seven or eight weeks from this office; with difficulty climbed tho stairs, oa Saturday last, and is lookthe ghost of his former self. Rheumatism has wrestled vigorously with John, but the patient is now slowly convalescing. John Smith, the well known orchardist, who lives east of town, has been unable to visit Bloomington since September last. Mr. S. is suffering with a throat and lung disease. Bob Campbell arrived home from Southern illlinois, Saturday morning, and forthwith proceeded to sell his household furniture at auction. His family will accompany him to Egypt, where he is at present engaged in leasing land for a Pennsylvania Mineral Company. Leroy S. Chase will occupy Campbell's residence, in the northeastern portion of town. Stuart & McPheeters are fitting up the room in Masonic Hall Building, formerly occupied by Clark & Orchard, and will soon remove their Hardware Store to it. Clias. McPheeters is too energetic to re

location. Joseph M. Suthf.rland and Sheriff Fulk returned from Illinois,
last week. Fnlk was glad to see Joe again, as they had no met since Lusk jumped off the train at Shelbyvile, 111., last winter. Spencer had a fair audience at
the Court House, lost Thursday night, when the bad weather is considered. Columbus Browning has for some time evinced a 'hankering" after a brace of speckled horses, and during the fine sleighing weather of last Meek we observed him pulling the ribbons on a pair of as pretty horses as ever were harnessed together. Elder Lee, a Mormon, delivered a sermon at the Court House, on Saturday night. He, of coursc, took the position that the keys of Ileavcu were handed by St. Peter to Joseph Smith, and by him tossed into the lap of his successor, Erigham. Mr. Lee has but two wives and 18 children at Salt Lake, we are informed. He is visiting relatives in this vicinity. Lung Fever is uncommonly prevalent in this vicinity Mrs. Mclvinley and the wife of Dr. Nut f' are both seriously ill with this disease.

CINGIHRHT1&0MMERGIAL. 5' OR 1872. It is our purpose that the reputation which this iourmil has as a nowsuaper shall

tuscussion ot all questions ot public interest, shall have constant illustration and increase.
This year will be ono of extraordinary demands upen tho daily press. It is the
year ot the J residential election, ot tne
long session of Congress, and of tho Constitutional Civntion in Ohio; and the
daily newspaper will be in an unusual de
gree important for tho information of tho ueoplo.
Wo propose that this journal shall con
tain all the ne ws, lrrespectativo ot its in
fluence upon politicians and tneir organi
zations, the uilo and object being tho publication of fa :ts that may be usot'ul about
pbuhc men and measures, that the people, knowing the truth, may be true to themselves.
No expense or exertion will be spared to make the record in the columns of the
Commercial or mplete as a history of tho
year. Abroad, we have tho best correspon
dents who ci.n he engaged in London or
Fans. At Immo, our bpecial Correspon
dents located v New York and Washington, at the State capitals that most concerns us, and traveling in the South, and present at all points wlere their service is thought available, bin e eclobritv as' news gatherers
and fame as vsmiv writers. We are not in receipt cf any official fa
vors or patronage whatever. Our depen
dence is excli sivel v upon the good will and legitimate hi -Vines custom of the people. AVe have neither part nor lot in the scrambles for office oi the schemes for tile appropriation of the spoils, but hold ourselves absolutely clear of selfish interest in public affairs. Upon this in-pregnable footing we propose to maintair our-ielves, and hope, with diligence, fair play and fit enterprise, to enlarge the. circulation, and better the inlluonce, and augment the profitableness, to ourselves as well as to others of the Cincinnati Commercial in 1872.
