He received in his youth not or.)) the tienernl scholastic trniniti.; peculiar to tht. Cormnsis. lr.it a thorough musical education. AVhile yet :i young man he was elected in the Legislature : but. t aking an aoive part in the revolutions of '48 and '40, he suff.'rel. with others.the punishment which the government indicted, namely, exile and eon fiscal ion of property. Mr. Soebner, with his family, arrived in the IT. 8. in the winter of 1849, coming almost directly to Indianapolis his financial affairs in a critical condition. His early musical education, however, now open,.-1 to him the road to future suc'ess. He employed his time as a music teacher in Indianapolis till 52, when he roiove.lto l);iyton.O Here in a few years, by his integrity, his energy, and ability as au instructor, be was enabled to buy out a niiif.ii' .-lore in that city. Still he did not aliMindon his profession as a teacher, but continued until til. In the meantime, however, s:icli succfss had attended him, that he hud established branch houses at Hamilton, O, and Richmond, Ind. A a Music Teacher and Piano Bealer, Mr. Soebner had the best opportunities to be -onie ucquainted with the various makes of Pianos ; with a critical and sensitive ear, he judges qrnickly of their rjua'ities of tone, and his long experience as n teacher qualities him to jndg of their durability. With such informntion he could always buy and lioll the best in the mnrket. He was very anxious to Siscure the agency of the Steinwm Pianos. This, however, could not be had at his location in Ohio, the agency beinir held by other dealers previously established, fbit his ambition was not to be cheeked, and ho som devised a plan to secure his purpose. To accomplish this he returned, in IRGS.to Indianapolis, and soon after his arrival bought tho Piano business of Messrs. Benham & Co., and by so doing secured the Stein way agency. Tho firm w:is now So -bner & Benham. Kigbt months aft. r, from reasons vlicb savored of intrigue, Me-'.rs. Steiuway & Sons withdrew the agency from Soelmer & Benham. Wills rd & Co. now become the agents, and adverissd the Steinw.iy sis the ''best in the wi rid " which is still' true. Although the Hteinway Piano nlf.mis less p-olit to the agent thin any other, Mr. Sovhncr dctcriniredto abandon the business, nnless he could havi! the agency of his favorite instrument. He t herefore sold out bis interest to Mr. A. M. Benbacit, and made a visit

Messrs. tHeinwar & Sons hail reconsidered their action, and awarded to Mr. SoeJiner. on hLs return, the agency not only for Indinnapolis. but from Richmond on the east to Torre Haute on the west, with thirty-four northern and southern counties. In January, 1370, he opened his new Piano House under the Academy of Music, remaining there until April. '71. About that time Messrs. BeiTbiu::i & Pro. gave up the Piario husiness Mr Soehrijr renting a part of their rooms nt :'! K. Washington street. Messrs. The Stein w iy Pianos art! universally conceded to be tiie lending first-class Piano now before the public. Thcsti instruments are preferred tn all others by the leading pianists. They are used by all the principal concert, troupes. They have a truly 'world-wide" reputation, being largely exported to Kurope and all parts of the civilized world and are sought to be imitated by nearly all American and European Piano makers. But a far more valuable distinction even than the first grand gold medal of honor at tho Paris Kxposition was awarded Messrs. Sfcjinway is Sons, when Pro:'. Helmholtz, whc is acknowledged to ie the highest European nnthority in the science of acoustics, and who occupies Unit chair in the University of Berliu, after a careful examination f every Piano brought under his notice, unhesitatingly selected the Rteinway instrument as the only one which reached the acme of perfec

Steinway is the receipt of an order from the Empress of Russia for one of their fi lest full-concert grund pianos, and one cf their new uprights, to complete the refurnishing of the Winter Palace. Hair Vigor, For restoring Gray HaSr to its natural Vitality and Color.

A dressing which is at once agreeable, healthy, and effectual for preserving the hair. Faded or gray hair is soon restored to its original color, with the gloss ana freshness of yovih. Thin bait is thick-

snetl, falling bait checked, and baldness often, though not always, cured by its use. Nothing can restoie the bair where the folF.clea are destroyed, or the glands atrophied nnd decayed. But such as remain can be savod for usefulness by this application. Instead of fouling the hair with a pasty eedh wont, it will keep it clean and vigorous. Its occasional use will prevent tho hah from turning gray or falling off, and consequently prevent baldness. Free from those deleterious substances which make somo preparations dangerous, and injurious to the hair, the Vigor can only benefit but not hanoi it. If wanted merely for a HAIR DRESSING, nothing elso can lie found so desirable. Containing neither oil nor dye, it does rot soil white cambric, and yet lasts long on tho bair, giving it a rich, glossy lustre and a grateful perfume. Prepared by Dr. J. C. Ayer & Co., pBACTICAt, AND ANALYTICAL ClIIMIS'CS, LO WEILL, MASS. PBICEI 1.00.
