He has another let of 22 head, which he says will average f'20 lbs They tell a good joke on Judge Swear, at Bedford, which runneth thus: During the examination of Downs, charged with assaulting Willoughby Nugent, a fewweeks ago, Berry and Swat r, both of Mitchell, and attorneys for defendant, concluded that tho testimony of a negro of their toivn was necessary, and forthwith telegraphed for him. Faulkner was requested by the attorneys to give the colored man bed and board during his stay, and they would settle for the same. Now Faulkner is the prince of practical jokers, and when meal time came he placed Swaar and Berry at table and then sandwiched their African witness between them. Berry, it seems, understood and relished the joke, but Swaar excitedly called Falkner, and swore that he would leave the house if the "man and brother" was not removed. Berry, on his part, declared that he would leave the housi? if the black man wis removed. Falkner scratched his head slightly nnd remarked, "Well, Judge, Berry pays his bills and you don't, so I guess the nigger can stay '" It is stated however, that the eating went on in the same order in which it began, without any one leaving the table The Town Council now holds its regular meetings on Friday night of each week.
