This estimate is only for the ordinary railroad bed : all heavy grading, bridging and cutting would
be extra expense. Taking this estimate as the basis of our calculations, we have the following remits : The Cincinnati and Terre Haute Railroad will be about thirty-two miles in length in this county, and will cost $560,570. But to this we must add at least three miles more for side tracks, at a cost of $52,554, and 30,000 for station hoti&is, tool houses, bridges,
and extra w rk, making the grand
total of G 3,130. JNot less than 340,000 will be distributed in the county for h.bor, and for the articles used in the construction of a railroad, with Arlrich onr county is so abundantly supplied. They will spend in our county at least 100,000 a year vhile the road is building, and newly every cent of this will get into the pockets of the farmers, either for the articles they supply, or for their produce to feed the laborers. We will actually get three times lho amount of our subucription into our pickets before we pay out a cent. Then we get the road which will save the farmers at least S60.0G0 a year. The rise in
real estate will add at least a million to our tax duplicate within a year after the road is completed, and three times t tat amount by the next census. Indeed it will be a grand speculation ior everybody. Freed from servility to one Railroad, we shall be sbie to keep pace with neighboring counties aye, with this road ire can out run them, and our couuty seat will become pre-eminent among her neighbors.
Low Fk eights. A package of
goods came through th .s city yes
terday, fron New York, to some point on the Bloomington road, as J i i to., i. are v. -v..l,
ireiguw .i! uiruu uuiu iicw .lull here on the bundle, amounted to nine cents, and the Bloomiugton road received one cent for forwarding it to its destination. Indianapolis Jourm'J. Although this is an extraordinary case, it serves :o illustrate what effect upon transrortation competion in freights has. Were there but one road to convey goods from New York instead of half a dozen, the
freight would amount to as much as the value oJ the goods. There cannot be too many railroads for the good of the people. They benefit the poor and the rich alike. Tie ;selling price of every article i3 governed entirely by the cost of transportation. If that cost is light, the consumer and producer get the benefi ts. We now have an opportunity to get an additional road. The question is with ti e people for their decision, and we trust in their wisdom, as to the result; Anderson Herald. The above is as true as gospel,
and everybody knows it. We also have an opportunity to get an additional road. Will our people improve it ?
