HOOFLAND'S GERMAN BITTERS, HOOFLAND'S GERMAN TOIIIC, HOOFUND'S PODOPHYLLIN PILL, HOOFLAND'S GREEK OIL
A Republican Paper, Devoted to the Advancement of the Local Interests of Monroe County.
Established A. D., 1835.
BLOOMINGTON, USD., WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 1871.
New Series VOL. V. NO. 20.
Hoofland's German Bitters,
A Bitters wUhont Alcohol or Spirits of any kinl
Is different from all others. It is comf osed of tbe pore juices or vital pbixcipai of Hoots, Herbs, and Barks (or as medicinally terraed, extracts), tho worthless or inert portion of the ingredients not being used. Therefore, in one hot tie of this Bitters there is conwtined as much medicinal virtue as will he found in several gallons of ordinary mixturoi. The Boots, etc., used in this Bitters aro grown in Germany, their vital principles extracts:! in that country by a scientino Chemist and forwarded to the manufactory in this city, where they are compounded and bottled. Con saining no sptrituousing redienta, this Bitters is free from the objections urged against all others , no desire for stimulants can be induce 1 from their use, they cannot make drunkards, and cannot, under any circumdtances, have any but a beneficial effect.
Hoofland's German Tonic
Was compounded for those not inclinec 1 1 ex
treme bitters, and is intended for use in oasts when some alcoholic stimulant is reqvird in connection with the Tonio properties of. the Bitten. Each bottle of the Tonic contains one bottle of the Bitters, combined with pure Santa Cbcz Rear, and flavored in bucd i manner that the extreme bitterness of the Bitters is overcome, forming a preparation h'.gklv agreeable and pleasant to the palate, aud containing the medicinal virtues of the Bi ters. The price of the Tonio is 1.50 per bottle, which many persona think too high. They must take into consideration that the stimulant used is guaranteed to bo of a pui e quality. A poor article could be furnish, d at a cheaper prico, but iait not better to pay a little more and havo a good article? Aircuicimd preparation should contain cone but t he beat ingredients, aud they who expect to cbt&in a heap compound will most certainly be ch9ated.

attention for a few weeks past. The prosecution proved, without the shadow of a doubt, that when Gavitt took this boy from the poor house, he was
in no way different from other boy 3 of his age. The testimony, in brief, -was
as follows : Gavitt starved the boy until he would crawl under the table and pick up the crumbs from tho floor ; he has. been seen to beg salt water from the cook, and, pouring it into an old piece of a frying pan, cook the outside leaves of a cabbage, which he would eat with hiB fingers; he was not allowed to eat with the family, but given a mess of stufl upon this self-same frying pan; he has been compelled to sleep in an old shanty upon a pile of straw ; it was proven that Gavitt was wont to chain the boy with a log chain, and thajt on one occasion lie tied him hand and foot, bundled him into a wagon, and carried him in this manner from Spring Arbor to his home.
