A Martinsville man, who had seen one of the posti?rs,brought her to Bloomington and secured the 25.00 offered for her return. The mare was rir.den to Martinsville by some person unknown, hitched to the horse rack, and remained there twenty-four hours before she was taken up. Several canvassmen, belonging to the Circu, were discharged here last Tuesday, and it is believed one of these individuals rode the mare to Martinsville and then took a train Bob Campbell is doing a nice little jobbing business. He ships baits of goods to all the surrounding towns, and a few days ago received an order from Fayettevilte. way down in Lawrence The cold chill v wind of lust week

to ascertain if two wrongs wouldn't make him all right. In Kentucky he found a man who ovned a good mill. He traded a jackass and two of the five hundred dollar notes to the miller for his property, and took quiet possession. As the mortgage showed the price paid (or the land to be $3,000, of course the Kentuckian expected to find it an easy matter to make his money. Last week he arrived in Bloomington with his two five hundred dollar notes, and then discovered that the Salt Creek township land would not sell for two hundred dollars in cash. Is this simply "sharp practice," or is it not barefaced swindling? The farm house of Parker Thompson, in Richland township, was burned to the ground on Saturday "igbl last, and but a small portion of the household goods wore saved. The fire originated in a box in which the ashes were depo-i-ed.
