ILettcr from Ellettsvllle. Ellettsvillo, April 26.h, 1871. Mr. Editor: The"benstly weather" to which you referred, is here again, and one experiences little troabh in keeping cool. However theso whose woodpiles are not out, may live quite comfortable, unless their neighbors borrow too much. The recent cold weather has been death, we fear, to the peach and cherry crops. This would be sac: inJeed, for so many successive failures, especially with peaches, is qui tec iscournging. Severe losses in early vegetables were also sustained. As we had nothing to lose, we can only sympathize by our sorrow at having to eat something else. THE I. O. O. F. CELEBRATION at Bloomington, yesterday, notwithstanding the very inclement weather, was highly enjoyed by the members of the fraternity from here. We think the Odd Fellows of B. a pretty clever kind of Fellows, and arc glad we have such good and hospitable brethren so close to home. They would make one w?nt to helot: g to them whether he could or not;. The dinner was mos: refreshing to the inner man, and was most abundant tor the supply of all. The address of Rev. Dr. Andrns, of Indianapolis, was extraordinarily good. Indeed, your correspondent thought it decidedly the best he ever heard. The address, as a potential means of elevating and ennobling 1 umanity, ought to be published and scattered broadcast over the land. Long may the author live to wield his powerful pen and eloquent voice iu the
vindication of friendship, love and
truth, the memorable trial upon wh ich rests the grand building of Odd Fellowship. We hope in some measure to be able, at no distant day, to reciprocate the generosity and hospitality of the O. F's. of Bloomington. OI'R IiCSINES-?. It may be interesting for many to kne w, that our little town can compete with the larger places. ' We have an excellent corps of merchants and the prices for goods may be indicrted by a citizen of Bloomington, who to-day, by coming lure to buy some articles, saved on one fifty per cent,., and on another twenty-five. So much in favor of our side. We can compete in many other respects with other placrs of greater pretensions. A sample of the work made
by Mr. Muserave the proprietor of
the Woolen Mills, proves rum to be a master workman. He will not only redeem the characte r of the factory, but give the best ssttisfaction to a 1 who patronize him. There is no need of farmers taking their wool to other markets, when this is nearer, and equally cord in all resp jets. We are glad to note the good prospocts of the enterprise.
Mr. J. W. Moss is convalescent, and will be out soon ; in the meantime the affable and gentlemanly Mr. Wm. Miller, attends the wants of customers. T ie Summer School by Miss MaUie Taylor, began Monday last. Miss Taylor gives promise of being an acceptably competent t oacher. The preparations to attend the Union Sabbath School Convention
at Cross Roads M. E. Church, are
not so very extensive. Perhaps if
it. werea political gatherin:r,a greater "tun out" mght be anticipated. A little episode occurred yesterday on the train. Our party, cn route for the celebration, was large, for a Caboose ; so there was a great deal of experimenting on the platforms, looking back and forward. One gentleman stepped off while the train was in motion snd got to walk six miles to Bloomington. We heard to-day that Mr. R. T. Stimson has bought the t wn property owned bv Mrs. Kellcv, and will
soon become a resident of our town.
Mr. S. will bean acceptable addition to our place. Mrs. Kellty will remain here and continue in the Millinery business.

The transcript is now being prepared at the County Clerk's Office One day last week, Capt. Although the face was shaven close after death, the moustache had grown near an inch in length. A number of gentlemen went out to the burying ground to see the corpse The disagreeable state of the weathcr, last Wednesday, was universally regretted ty the citizens of Bloomington and tlie Odd Fellows who visiftd our town on the occasion of the Celebration. The attendance was very largo, when we take into consideration the adverse circumstances. The train from the south brought delegations from New Albany, Campbellsburg, Salem, Mitchell and Bedford, accompanied by a fine band, and the procession,
after marching around the public
square, through a pelting rain, proceeded to the Fair Grounds, whore an excellent address, delivered by Dr. Andrus, was followed by an

At the meeting of the Town Board, on Monday evening, the following resolution was unanimously adopted : Council Chamber, "i . Bloomington, Ind., May 1st.
Whereas, Jno. C. Orchard is
about retiring from the position of
Town Clerk, and having, for the
past six years, discharged the duties
thereof, to the entire satisfaction of
r.hc several members of the Board,
it was unanimously
Resolved, That the thanks of the Town
Board a.-e due, and arc hereby tendered to
Mr. Orchard, tor theatile and efficient discharge of the duties of the office of Clerk and Assessor, and in separating with him.
t ffif ially, he has our best wishes for his
future success and prosperity. By order of the Town Trustees, Jko. Walbrow, President. J. V. Fee, Clerk.
Now for extravagance ! We
have been creditably informed, by
one who knows, that the new Board
intend to commence the building of
five school houses, early next week
one in eaeh ward, and a Central school house. Each ward school building is to cost 383,423.10, and
the central school house, which is to
be built in the public square, will
cover the ground now belonging to
the county, and. is contracted for
already, at an estimated cost of eight
hundred and seventy-three thousand
dollars. The building will be of
wrought iron, and the Sewards will
do the work. Terrible !
A little daughter of Lou. Harrold,
while digging in the front yard of
the family residence, one day last
week, turned up several old coins,
among others an English shilling,
the date of which showed it to be near 200 years old. Other old coins have been found in the same
locality before. This is undoubtedly
