NOTABLE EVENT. Kcinovnl of a Premlnrnt Advertising Agency.

We are gratified to notice the progress of any enterprise designed to augment the interests of the press, and mutually bonoflt all parties connected therewith. With this object in view, Mosius. Cook, Coburn A Co., the extensively known Advertising Agents, located for several yoars past at Boom 1, 87 Dearborn street, Chicago, 111. , have been required by their increasing business, to remove to more spacious offices. Yielding to this necessity, they hare recently occupied Rooms 11 tc 12 (" Masonic Temple ") the Mine building with which they have been identified since the opening of their Advertising Agency, nearly ten years ago, aud where they now have ample accommodations to meet

the demands of their thriving business. Their offices have been finished in modern style, and noticeable among the improvements are the handsome " banking " countors of black walnut, mounted wihh a heavy plate glass railing. Surmounting the entrance to the ' Private " Office, is a beautiful design of a clipper ship under fall sail, typical of the speed with which advertisements entrusted to this Agency for prompt insertion, are transported to England.

Australia, the Bandwioh Islands or other for

eign points. The walls surrounding the offices are encir

cled with flies for newspapers, periodicals.

magazines Ac , systematically arrauged.iuclutl-

ing about twenty-five hundred different publications of this and foreign countries.

From these files are examined the papers in

which they have ordered advertising to be inserted, and the advertisers are always invited to inepoet the game, which is convincing evidence

that this firm fulfill what they agree to. In

fact their office is complete in all its arran,

ments, making it an inviting place for the

transaction of business.

The liberal patronage now bestowed upon

this firm, iB the result of diligent and peraovering application to business, which gives

them the enviable reputation of the largest

We often hear stories related of the wonderful cunning and knowledge of the rat, but one is told says the Ogdensbnrg (N. Y, ) Journal of a recent occurrence in which a real old gray rat was the hero, and the incident whereof took place in that city, which is equal to the best. A lady who has a number of fine hens, to which she has devoted n good deal of care and attention during the winter, in hopes to obtain an early and fair crop of fresh eggs, was surprised at the meagre result actually reached. Tho hens made noise, in singling and cackling, enough for every -day layers, and yet only occasionally did she get an egg. The lady at length determined to watch operations and ascertain if possible the cause of failure. She saw the hens go upon the nest, but as she was not

present when they came off no egg was found. At length constant watching and waiting solved the mystery. A day or two since, while on the watch, a hen came off the nest and commenced cackling. Almost instantly an old rat came out of a hole, and running into a barrel, which was thrown down upon its side.

and in which the hen's nest was, at oneo

nosed the egg out upon the ground, then laid down upon its back and getting the egg between its fore paws and nose, commenced squealing, when two other rats came out and taking tho rat with the egg by the hind legs, dragged it, egg and all, into the hole. The lady affirms that sho can substantiate the foregoing fact by at least three living witnesses. If any one cau tell a more remarkable rat story than this we would like to hear it.

Manufacture of Buttons. Tbo flast mo-nufaoturer of buttons in this country was Samuel Williston. While he was dragging along as a country storekeeper his eyes having

failed him while studying for the min

istry his wife bethought her that she oould cover by haud the wooden but

tons of the time, and thus earn an honest penny. From this the couple advanced in their ambition until they had perfected machinery for covering buttons the first employed for the purpose in this country. From this sprang an immense factory, and then others, until Samuel Williston made half the buttons of tlie world. His factories, are still running at Easthampton, coining wealth for the proprietors, anil known to every dealer in buttons the world over. He is naw between seventy and eighty years of age, is worth live or six millions, and has given $-100,-000 to Easthampton for a seminary and for churehes, $200,000 to South Haiillej Femolo Seminary, and $1200,000 to Am hcrst College, besides lesser gifts.
