"A contemporary thinks it roust te horrible on the battle-field, 'to lietr the stifled groans the dying txnd the shrieks of the dead.1" But we must all admit that a battle field will not compare with the country around Leonard's Mill, for here, in the wild rush to have prists ground, wagons, horses and men are piled indiscriminately, sometimes. Whenever the crowd is so great that three-fourths of them have to wait on the Mill, John, leing a Justice of. the Peace, tries them for disorderly conduct, and "makes it pay" both ways. W Remember the poor. Take war money little or much (hat you intend for charity to the Wool Factory of H iltzman & Son, and buy a lot of blankets, yarns, flannels and jeans its presents for the needy. A Patent Bight Swindle. A Hevf Dodge on the Vnautpeeting Mow Farmers are Taken in and Done For.
The papers in the northern and
middle portions ot Indiana nave been calling attention to a swindle
that 19 being earned on by a party of scoundrels. Many of the un
suspecting, in this section, having
been taken in by the same dodge, we
give the following from the lerre
Haute Gazette, showing the means
by which they operate. A man,
whom we will call A. Brown, comes to an honest farmer whom we may call John Smith, and introduces himself as the general agent for the sale of a steding machine, and tries to induce John Smith to become his sub-agent, telling him that he
can make a handsome profit by the sale of these machines, and that he
(Brown) only asks $10, to be paid
after he (John Smith) has sold $275
worth ot seeding machines. John
Smith has no hesitancy in entering intoa contract with A. Brown, which
the latter has in readiness, in printed form, as follows : 2 ; g ft- fl " S

sacks of Coffee stacked up there. Of course they sell great quantities of goods each day, or they could not afford to bring on two and three car loads of goods every two or three weeks; and the greatest source of surprise is the figures at which they sell. It a man wants to stoak np, he can nearly always get a full lot at Dunn & CVs as cheaply as at Louisville, and save traveling expenses and hotel bilki. Just trv the experiment of buying
at Dunn's if you have never done
ho before, ana our word for it, you will be well pleased. ' o-4tm - Certificates from responsible md reliable nu n, can besliown, tliat go far toward proving all that is said in favor of that wonderful preparation, "Dr. Mott's Bitters." Try a bottle, and he convinced. It will keep away the Chills, and the derangements of the blood so common at this season of the year.

This note is apparently all r'glit and fair upon its face, but the reader will observe that, by tearing the pap r in two, just after the date above aud the signature "Smith" below, the reading is entirely clanged, and the left hand piece of paper becomes a promissory note for S275, which the sharper immediately sells at a good discount, and tlx n strikes out for some other section of the country. Within the past year, six men have been induced to sign these notes. Cal. Mefford, Jeff. Brown. Tim. Starks aud Wylie Coffee, beinjr among the number. The notes are made payable in some distant Bank, sold to an innocent purchaser, and when due, the victim finds he lias notes out that he was unaware

Mr. Campbell went out in the 82d Regiment Indiana Volunteers, and his critical knowledge ofDrugs, and of the proper manner in which to prepare, compound and administer them, soon brought him Into notice, and ho was assigned 0 position where it was his duty to prepare and dispense medical compounds for several divisions of soldiers. With a characteristic recklessness for which Indiana Soldiers were celebrated, Bob was always ready for a little fun or a brisk fight, and while upon an expedition into the country, at one time, was surprised by a detachment of Rebel cavalrymen, who attacked him with their sabres, upon a prompt refusal to surrender, and after a running fight, in which he received a deep sabre cut across the face, (the scar from which yet remains), he put spurs to his horse, and with his usual good fortune, escaped. For some time the "Parlor Drug Store," as Bob's cosy establishment is christeued, has been found to be toosmall for the increasing business, and he has grown restless' thereat Finding it impossible to get a wider or deeper store-room in as eligible location as that at present occupied, Campbell determined to close up a stairway on the south side of his

some fifteen feet of counter-space Although his arrangements in this particular are not entirely completed, the wisdom of the movement. is already seen, in the better light and the widening of the room. The interior of the store is undergoing a thorough re-touching : everything that mechanical skill and elaborate ornamentation can do, is now being resorted to, that the Parlor Drug Store may he worthy of its name. The counters are painted in imitation of marble, and are mounted with rich silver show cases, in which may be found an array of Surgieaklmplements, Fancy Goods, and articles for the Toilet, which utterly defeats ' every effort at de-
