was discovered that some of the friends of Lusk had been watching the movements of the parties who intended to make a descent on Smith's house, and it was also ascertained that the burglar had been posted as to their suspicious movements. This changed the plans somewhat, and an immediate arrest was determined upon. "Wall, llight, L. E. Mc'vinney, R. A. Fulk, Jas. B. Clark and Michael Gabbert, then proceeded to the place of Lusk's concealment, and surrounded the house just as Lusk came to the west door to see if the "coast was clear." Opening a crevice of the door, revolver in hand, ho was not slow to discover his egress cui off in that quarter ; hurrying to toe cast door, i found that elosied and guarded. rest) was taking "cat-naps," and while the Sheriff was napping, Lusk was sawing. Finallv the handcifTs were cut, and soon after Fulk had awakened from one cat-nap and started into another, the prisoners quietly made their way to the door, opened it, and quickly stepped out upon the platform. Lusk and Sutherland set up both brakes, and as the train began to "slow" the engineer whistled "off brakes." After a short delay, in which the brakes were thrown off, the prisoners jumped, and after rolling over the ground, first one and then the other uppermost, they righted up, and found that with the exception of a" few bruises and their clothes badly torn, they had escaped injury. Sitting down by the track, they watched the train until it stopped, when, after recovering from the jolting incident to their experiment, they started off from the railroad, and nearing a farm house, found a wagon, from which they took the kingbolt ; further on, at the wood-pile, they discovered an iron wedge, ajid with theso as tools, soon relieved themselves of the hobbles. Knocking at the door of the farm house, they represented themselves as travelers who were lost. They were hospitably received, and after breakfast walked to Pana, where Lusk found a "friend" who gave him money. P. S. We have since learned that Lusk did not place as much reliance in his superior cunning as in ''his friends.'' Theso he believed would be truo to him, and render more aid than he ruecivud; indeed he charges his betrayal upon them. Ho had been in town riro daiis before his capture, and returned, as wc have before intimatedto secure money and valuable goods the former left with certain parties, and the latter securely hidden, as ho believes. There arc a number of persons In Bloomington who were con federates of Lusk, and who shared the dangers and fruits of hia robberies ; their names may yet be made public.
