The house and lot can be bought for less than seven hundred dollars.

reason why there should Ik an expensive building erected for a Jail, and that J udge Eckels was in no way to blame. Now, Judge Eckels wa to blame. Re compelled the building of the Jail, by virtue of his authority to order punishment inflicted for what lie was pleased to regard as neglect of duty upon part of the Commissioners ; he, a Democratic J udge, is responsible for the building of the Jail, and for the manner in which it is built. Mr. Mitchell might

knock a man down, and the man,

in falling, might strike the curbstone and death result from tin blow on the rock, and not from Mr. Mitchell's blow with his fist. Who would be responsible the curb

stone, or Mr. Mitchell ? Clearly

the agency which induced the re-

suit, oo, since Jjemocratic agencies have forced the building of thin Jail,

tiiey should be held responsible for any mistakes that may occur in its

construction.

TO THE NERVOUS. The natur;,l result of exhaustion of stroneth

by excessive labor or action is a feeling of weakness, dullness, heaviness, weariness, languor of body crmind, etc. Perso ns of a

weak constitution, or whose habits nre se

dentary, frequently complain of this rebixed condition of the vital energies; and when persons of a nervous tcmprment are thus weakened and debilitated, disease

inevitably follows, unless it is at once

checked ard overcome. All who suffer

from these causes aliko require a remedy

which will Btronthen the system without

exciting it, and awako a feeling of true en

joyment, so that life may become a source

of pleasure. MISHLEIt S nJSKl! jjixTEKS has won its way into the confidence

of thousands of this class of persons, who warmly endorse it as the best invigorating accnt, and the most potent and genial of all tonics and nltcratives for strengthing

ana restoring tne piiysicul constitution. Classical School. The Rev. Edward Wright will re-open his School on Monday, 19th iust. 2 Wasted. We want ali the scrap iron we -sin get, and will pay the highest price in cash for it, &t our Foundry. Sewabd & Co.

An Exhortation. We regret to observe indications of apathy on part of the Republicans of Monroe county, i:i regard to the approaching election, while thc activity and misrepresentation. of the Democrats only increase as our people grow indifferent. A great many Republicans do not realize the

importance of the Ootober election. They do not seem to recollect that all the county offices are to be filled, even to Justices and Constable?, at this election, and that if the Democracy succeed, the whole county will again pass into the hands of Mitch-

3lL Abel. McPhetrioVe & Co. If

the Republicans of Monroe could be made to fully real! se their danger, we have reason to believe that they would go to work at once and labor for the success of thc ticket. Look this matter squarely in the face, friends, and give the Democrats who are sneaking through thc county, making a quiet, but effective canvass, to understand that you are reading, thinking men, and can not lie led astray by the misrepresentations and falsehoods of men who are incapable of filling i:he offices they now assume to know so much about.

1I3P "Politics makes strange bedfellows," is verified in the construction of thc present Democratic County Ticket. In the Fall of 186S Dick Fulk was a candidate on the Republican Ticket for Real Estate Appraiser, he was also a subscriber to the Democra, but by some unexplained accident had not paid for his paper. The Democrat man in one of his issues pitched into the Radical Candidate (Fulk) who owed for his subscription, in a li vely manner, but now, singular to relate, he speaks as lovingly of Fulk as the dove would coo to its mate. And only last winter, when the hard fisted old Democrats came in to pay their taxes, no words were too pointed to express their abhorence of the man who fixed the appraisemeut of their farms and dwellings, for taxation, from 25 to S3 per cent, higher than it had been. But now it is all changed. Fnlk didn't mean to appraise property so infernal high have no idea he did. But then he had a good old Democrat for an Assistant Bro. P. L. D. Mitchell and his Assistant no doubt suggested to him that it would be a good idea to "figure high" as he was a Republican of

ficial, and thus east the odium of

high taxes upon the Republican Party. The next step was to get his fees, turn over his papers, rush out, and jump into the house of the Democracy ; but before he has fairly crossed the threshold he announces himself a candidate for Sheriff. In o:her words : "Give me an office, or I won't stay!" And this is the

ma! wh 80 recently received the curves o tne Democracy. Of course they will a'.' vote forhim note. Look Out. Bob Campbell's advertisement will most assuredly appear next week ! He tells iia

he has been so v ry busy during thc past ten days that it was impossible for him to get up an advertisement. So look out, next week, for something grand. The War Situation. From the mass of mere rumors, of which the dispatches from Europe are chiefly made up, it may be 'pretty clearly determined that the German armies have arrived within twenty-five miles of Paris, but have halted to await the settlement of the propositions for an armistice, which are now so strenuously urged upon the German Cabinet by the neutral powers. The fact that the Ministers who had made preparations to leave for Tours at once, have concluded to remain where

they are, is indicative of the exist-! ence of faith in Paris itselx i. thc; final inceess of the pending psaeej negotiations. When over Favt-asj government makes proper eouees-j sions nd request to the Kii g, there can be doubt of the ,vithd:-avr.I of

the German forces. But Until tliat is done, nothing but :.relsat!eso advance on the Cr.pii.al id to be expected. We regret to learn that our efficient Town Marshal, B. S. Chase, was seriously cui la the head and face, by being thrown from a buggy, several days ago, and is now at Bloomfield, unable to l.avel. One of the most substantial and creditable improvements recently made in Bloomingtoo, is the stone

pavement on the north side of the I

property belonging to J. S. Smith Hunter. Mr. H. is evidently "fixing to stay with us." Consent. na- The receipt of favors from Iloltzman & Co. acknowledged. Notice next week. Advertise in the Daily Proft"""' 1,000 copies will be distribi i day. Advertising rates
