Seward is a candidat3 for Commissioner for the 2d District. Mr. Seward is an unflinching Republican, and a competent business man. It has become generally known that the Pering's have ehoico stuck of Shoes in their new Store room, and the L lilies are visiting the Store and miking numerous purchases. 5fo little interest is felt by the fair sex in Helton's Pi.tent impervious and ventillating Gaiter. Tobe smith has the finest store room in
Indiana, as well as the largest stock of
Watchts and Jewelry. He wi ll sell a genuine Anerican watch, in coin silver case, for $15, ani he sells other "makes" rf watches
for $5 and upward. Tobe has also added new mt-chinery to that with which his wokk shop was already supplied, which enables
him to do all kinds of watch repairing for
ajout htuf the prices that others charge, ana in a much better manner. Ho don't patch up your watch po that it will run for a few
days, but he supplies new works, in.' toad of
the oic, so that when it leaves his bands, your time-keeper is as good as new. If you ctdl upon him, he will give you his price list. Do22tf JoH:f P. Mepulrilcan Masn Meeting. There will bo a Mass Meeting of the Republicans of Monroe rounty, at the Court House, in Bloomington, On Saturday, May 21, 1870, at 1 o'clock, to determine the mannet of nominating candidates, to be supported at th s October election, by the Republican Party. Come out every bod", unci give one day to this important business. By order of Central Committee. CLE, LAND F. DoDDS, Cli airman. Sprouts combiiu 3 Hay Fork and Knife. Sole agents lor Monroe and Owen counties, Stua rt is Co. Letter from Qeo. A. II uskirK. Mr. BniTOK : llow mo through the columns of your paper, to call 1 -.Mention to a few ..if the misrepresentati ns contained in the report of tlm speed:, r.iadu by me, on the occasion of tho Batiiicution o( the 15th Amendment by the col. .red people, as publisheJ ir tho Democrat cf last .Saturday. In the first sentenco I am made to say in substance, thr.t I appeared to honor the meeting. I said !t appeared t: aeknov.dedge the honor done me by calling on me for a speech, &c. Immediately following, I am nuide. to use the word ''stinking," in connection with Mr. AToorhecs. I did not, on that or any other occasion, ever use such language in a public speech. I defy the Editor to prodi.ee anothe:.- person that will si.y that I did. In attempting tc repeat what I said concerning Mr. Vobraoos' speech in Congress, he. makes my language meaningless and unintelligible. I think I ustii lh make myself understood by those who have sufficient capacity to coripreaend. I am forced to "selicvc thatthest errors were intentional, and made for political effect. On referring to the speeches of Mr. B:-itton and Mr. Hi:iton, I lind them correttly rejxirtel. This serves to confirm me in that opinion. I had no right, under ordina-y circumstances, to expect anything like fairness from the Democrat, but in this instance I had the word of th! lteponcr, tint he would rep or; me correctly. How far he redeem
ed his pledge, I leavo it for tins put lie to :
judge. Numerous otner errors occur, out l
will not consume time i". attempting to i
correct treni. s.ich evident unfairness most usua lv fails ff its object. GEORGE A. BUSKIRK.
Blasting Extraordinary Ye have jus t learned that Messrs. Sharpo & Highet, the enterprising proprietor of one of the quarries in the neighborhood of Ellettsvillc, have made another very successful blast by means of electricity. With 28 pounds of powder and four holes, the proper connections having been made, a ledge of rock eighty feet long, twenty feet wide and twelve feet thick was moved, The weight of this large mass is over 2,000 tons. The superiority of this mode of blasting consists in this, it enables the operator to fire any number of blasts at the same time, and thus move or detacch masses of almost any size. If there were a hundred charges connected together there would be no appreciable difference in time, in the explosion of the first and of the last.
