W.LIIAMS & JaMKS ABE KEeiving fre.-Oi lish from Toledo through i:i one day. The fish sol J by them now are principally salmon and pike. Everybody buys them. i Tkr first man to buy Warp's Portable G.is Light, was Tobe Smith. Tobe is an orterprising, wide-awake business man, always ready to avail himself f any meritorious invention that is presented, and be has judgment enough to know what is meritorious. So in buying Goods he always has a large, choice stock of everything in his line.and sells low. He has any quantity of Sewing Machine Trimmings, .s well as "Watches and Jewelry.
Stepped ix to Jons P.Smith's Store to set our Wateh, yesterday, (do that every diijr) and found John up to his eyes in work that is, he had twenty or thirty watches hanging all around his bench, that had had been brought in that morning for repairs. If work continues to pour in :is 5t has rocently,Jobn, will have to use steam, or hire a couple of Jours. The secret of this is, that John is recognised as a earef jl and co'npetcnt workman. There is a "rush" at Siiokmaker & Co s. Tor Wall Paper and White Xad. People have found o at that they e n get all .tyles and quantities at S. & Co' 5., nd they go there. A large consignment, 'of White Lead arrived last Thursday, and it is disappearing rapidly. Students ci-.n get any bcok they want, at the Union Dreg .Store.
Sweet Potatoes for seed, Country Hams, Shoulders and Sides, nice Dried Peaches and Apples, a good stock of Queensware, as well as nil kinds of Glassware, j jst received lit Trueblocd & C 's Orocery and Provision Store. Almost any Article in their line which you may inquire f;r, enn be had at this store. They bjy and sell all kinds of country produee. . m A good judge of fine goods is Jtdiii MeCalla. us the stock he brought from the city last week attests. But he wants those indebted to his fira to pay their accounts or n otes at the store, or to a Justice of the Peace. Fise Bull Calf. Asher Labertew "has a fine Bull Calf, one year old, which he desires to sell. Mr. L. is somewhat celebrated as a breeder of &m stock, and it is needless to add that this Calf is of as good stock as any in Use county. County Orders. Two or three hundred dollars in Connty Orders a wanted for "Jk.x paying purposes, by ptn.ies who have left the money at this office, with instructions to pay as little as possible for them. Sharp axd Rapid Practice. Several weeks ago a farmer and his wife, living a short distance from Bloomington, iudulged in a little quarrel, and the woman came to town, where she might grow cool, and tho sooner recover hi r good nature. Soon after the wife le't home, tho husband came to town, but as ;he sequel will show, upon en errand of a different nature He called upon an attorney, s tated t int his wife h id left him, tint their dispositions were i icompatable, and that he wished to procure a divorce upon these grounds abandonment being tho principal one. Court would convene on the following Monday, and the business was transacted at once. Notice was served for the wife, and le;'t at the residence of the husband, and as the wife was in town getting over her i;pet,'' she was of course unaware of service. The case w;is called in the Common Pleas, and an attorney appointed to hear tho case; the husband brought in evidence to show that ids wife had left him, that they did not live together harmoniously and that thero was no probability or' a reconciliation. The divorce was granted. Several days afterward, the wife, 1 aving recovered her equanimity, returned to what she stir believed to le her homo, only to find thfit she was divorced and homeless. We understand that tn effort will be made to recover alimony. If, after this, the married women of Monroe county observe an anxiety upon the part of their husbands to have them visit their friends, just before Common Pleas Court convenes, there will be just grounds for suspicion.
Exceptions having been taken tc our use of the word "indefinitely,'" in speaking of the offices of Auditor and Clerk, last week, ;we hasten to explain, Webstkk defines : "Indefinitely not with certainty or precision." Wm. K. Rawlins of Washington township, is a candidate for
