I rouble, besidea niakitig the boiera last imu h longer. The lime is very easily removed from the extraction and is easily managed without delaying the machinery. A person who U using steam cannot v,ell afford to do without one, when the water deposits much of n sediment, They are selling two kinds ot extractors at this establishment : the Hooton patent and theStillwell patent. They are boih very good.. Still another valuable invention which this house is furnishing is a low water detector. This is simply a steam whistle with attachments so managed that the instant the water becomes too low in the boiler, an alarm is given through the whistle. With this attachment on a boiler there need l;o no danger from accident on account of low water. They can be attached so that the alarm water line, will be some distance above the flues, thus preventing them from burning, a thing which ruins so many boilers. The
cheapness, simplicity and utility, of
their detectors, commend them to
every one using steam. J hey furnish two kinds: Ashcroft's patent and Masscy's patent. In this connection we will speak of their glass water guages. They consist of a glass t.ibe, into which the water from the boiler rises to a level with

Voorliees In a New Role. Here is a rather suggestive paragraph : "It has been held by some that the internal revenue laws of the United States do not apply to the Indians 'not taxed,' and that the Indian territory is a place where tobacco and whisky can be be made free of all molestation by the revenue officers. The commissioner, however, has decided otherwise, and by that decision the tobacco factory of Colonel Botidinot, a Cherokee, in the Indian territory, was seized some time ago, and is now held by
the Government for non-payment of
internal revenue tax. Boudinot
wants to have the law construed differently from the Commissioners
decision. He therefore went before
the House Judiciary Committee to
day, with the Hon. I). W. Voor hces as his counsel. The Govern ment was represented by Judge J
P. James of the Revenue De
partment. Both parties were heard,
but the Committee came to no de
cision as to what they will do." Hon D. W. Voorhees is a mem
ber of the House of Representatives. When the Judiciary Committee reports upon this matter, whatever conclusion they may arrive at must pass in review before Mr. Voorliees, the paid attorney of one of the parties. It i.s also to be noted that Mr. Voot hees is "against the Government" his normal and congenial position. If there is no law, there certanly ought to be a code of honor, which prevents a member of Congress from practising as an attorney before the Committees, as well as the Departments. Ind.

A Wrijck at Long Branch. A horrid scene on the schooner James H. Hoyt, which was wrecked at Long Branch on Wednesdayiud its entire crew of six men lost, wan witnessed by the people on the shorn who could afford no relief. The crew endeavored to get out a boat, I nit it was Ktove against the side of the vessel and dashed to pieces. The men became frozen, and their lifeless bodies were seen washing about among the debris and the wreck of the vessel. One man climbed the rigging and clung to it, but he was drenched with the torrents of spray, and became frozen like a wooden block. His frozen fingers broke from their clasp, but his foot caught in the rigging and the lifeles3 body hung suspended head downward, when suddenly a broken spar struck the neck and the head was instantly snapped from the trunk, which still retained its place, while the head bounded back and forth between the counter lines of foam. Troy Times. Going West. It is Saturday, and four covered wagons, drawu by eight tired horses, and filled with the household furniture of four discontented families, are seen slowly
making their way westward. Six hundred or a thousand miles are to be traveled. Six weeks or t.vo months will elapse, and these families will find themselves in Iowa, Kansas, or some other far Western State, too late perhaps, to plant a a crop, and compelled to live "as best they can" until the following Spring. . Why is this constant stream moving west? The answer is, "Last week we got a letter f rom Sam 'a wife, cut yonder, and she says she wouldn't live here. We have the ague sometimes ; the people are not neighborly ; crops are uncertainnd then the winters are so irregular. Why, if that is half as good a place as Sam's wife says it is, it would pay to sell the best farm to get there. Just think ! last year Sam raised three hundred bushels of wheat, any amount of corn, the biggest pump

He touched the animal with a needle, ind instantly the dog became stiff as a poker, being unable to wag even his tail. The only objection to this invention seems to be that the robber can use it with, the same effect as the honest man.
