' And still the excitement continues among the patrons of M. J. Smith & Co. Why ? Because they are selling Clocks, Watches, and Jewelry at greatly reduced prices, in order that much of their present stock may be turned into money before a change of proprietorship (which is to be) takes place. When Tobe gets excited, he don't seem to GStre d iaraond for expenses, and will sell goods almost as cheap as the importer, ""John G. MePhetridge, proprietor of a Provision Store, in :;his place, left home for New Albany, several weeks ago, ostensibly for the purchase of goods. It is reasonable to suppose that lie has-"gone where be woodbine twinefch," as Leydcn 4fe Co. A Bradley & Co., of New Albany, have taken possession of the stock and fixtures of his store. MePhetridge was doing a good business he had concentrated at his establishment nearly all of the Democratic trade of the town, in his line, and being an affable, accommodating business man, kept his customers. The assets, it is believed, will
pay about fifty cents oa the dollar of liabilities. Gou Down Goods Down. Taley & Co., proprietors of the New York Store, keeping pace with the decline in gold, have reduced the prices of all classes of Goods, in their establishment, and intend to
run them off, so that they may bring on a larger and more attractive Spring stock than ever. This announcement is not mere form, the gentlemen of the firm mean just what they say, aad those who go to the' New York Store for bargains, -will not lie disappointed.

This reminds us of a story we heart?, quite recently, altuut a citizen cf this county. Several years ago he bought a light wagon, with a bos bed, and brought it with him to th is State. He drove one horse to thj wagon, regularly for several years, often lifting loads over the tail-lioard with great difficulty. While in town one day, he observed a tes meter who unscrewed a rod, -at the rear end of his wagon, dropped
the ward, and a half-dozen barrels of flour were rolled out with ease. Here was an idea. So off the old mar hurried to Seward's shop, and finding one of the Scwards, told him he wanted the tail-board of his waj.on hung on hinges, with a rod to told it up. Seward examined the was;on, turned a nut at the side of the tail-board, draw out a rod, and
down dropped the gate upon its hinges. "Well, well," exclaimed the old man, chewing his tobacco vigorously, "I've had this 'ere wagon two years, and never know'd that afcre!" Penmanship. Mrs. W. W.

John P. Smith, the popular Jeweler and Repairer of Watches, finding that the room he had been occupying for several years past, was too small to meet the requirements of his rapidly increasing business, leased the room ou the west side of the square, adjoining the auction store, nnd fitting it up in a manner both elegant and seat, removed to bis present location early this Spring. With a commendable determination to excel, Mr. Smith procured a large, choice and attractive stock of Goods, including fine Jijwelry, Musical Instru

American and Forp Watches, in silver .and gold cases, ve&Mi equalled in this
portion of the Stnlc. He also secured ths

It is said that John R. East. Attorney at Law, late of Iudian Creek township, will be a candidate before the Democratic Convention
for Judge of the Circuit Court. Mr. East graduated in the Lav School, about, three weeks ago. JJ A number of colored people arrived from the south, last Satur

friend, the former Chairman of the Democratic Central Committee, mixing around pretty lively among the colored friends, but we did not learn certainly that he induced any of them to locate on his fruit farm though such an assertion has been made.
Tom Smith has the finest store room in Indiana, as well as the largest stock of Watches and Jewelry. He will sell a genuine American watch, in coin silver case, '"or $15, and he sells other "makes'' of watches for$.r and upward.
