CoAfj Gil. Lamp explosions arc becoming altogether too frequent to be pleasant. Almost every paper we receive, contains one or more accounts of fatal accidents from "lamp explosions." There is something wrong with the oil. Tt is only recently that lamps were known to explode while sitting upon a table, and with no perceptible cause. Pure coal oil, or oil properly refitted, will not explodc, and the wholesale dealer who will send the death-dealing bogus oil from his house, should be treated as a criminal a wholesale murderer. Retail dealers should

apply the test to oil before using, or selling it. A gallon of explosive oil, sold by a retail dealer, will ruin his trade, and possibly ruin several of his customers tor life. To test oil, take a pot of boiling water,heat-1

ed to 110, which can be ascertained by submerging a thermometer in the water, and when it reaches the maximum degree to which the oil ought to be subjected.,pour a small quantity of oil in the water. If it burns at any point below 110, the oil is unsafe, and is almost certain to explode. B3T" A largo collection of miscellaneous books, j.ist received by MePhceter.
