New Railroad Project. Articles of association of the Cincinnati aud St. Louis Railroad Compa

State's office, Oct. 19th. The company h9 a capital of four millions of dollars, divided into forty thousand shares, of one hundred dollars each. The road is to be built from Green.burg through the counties of Decatur, Bartholomew, Brown, Monroe, Greene and Sullivan, to Merom, on the Wabash, where it wil! connect with a road to Effingham, Illinois, and running thence to St. Louis. The distance from Cincinnati to Merom is about one hundred and ninety miles The following persons have been chosen Directors for the first year : Will Cumback and J. B. Foley, of Decatur county : B. The only man who made anything out of tlv recent Democratic defeat in Ohio, was Sam dry. It is stated that the Democratic Com -mitttee paid him sixty dollars a
speech, besides defraying his ex
penses, and tuat he made forty-seven speeches. This would net Samuel twenty-eight hundred and twenty dollars, and pays him bettter than his temperance speeches used to do. We are glad that he made the Democracy pay him so well, ami that his campaign turned out so beautifully for the the Republicans. He would no doubt have made speeches on our side for sixty-five dollars each, but we did not want them at any price. No, thank you, Samuel. Ind. Journal.
At Bismarck Station, ona mile east of Lawrence, on the Kansas Pacific Railroad, as the train was passing west, on Saturday morning, two passengers had each m arm out of the window of the car. Just as they were passing a construction train, their arms came in contact with the swinging door of a derrick car, and broke them both, mangling them in a shocking manner. Moral : Keep inside of the car when it is in motion.
The New Albany Commercial trots out the meanest man in the State. It says: "There is a man in Floyd county who pursuaded his aged father to 'make over to him all his money and property, and after the old man had done so, the affectionate son went to the Township Trustee and demanded of him a weekly stipend for the father's support. And we are further informed this 'dutiful son' has the audacity to desire license to preach."

Buskirk and Hoss then done the pitching. "We would recommend the boys not to chalk nge the 'Red Stockings' iinywny? aoon, it takes something more ttian baaetl ng to win a game.'' The "Riverside Magazine," like its contemporaries, puts out its programme for the coining yct.r ; but its monthly numbers are the most satisfactory evidence of its good intentions. The November one, now ready, contains Twenty illustrations, one of them full page, and seventeen articles, ranging over a pretty wide field. Thus, there is a Danish story by the famous Hans Andersen ; an article on i:he use of "Indian Clubs ;" a French fairy tale ; a well illustrated sketch of Napoleon Bonaparte and Parisian monuments to him ; a chapter of Mrs. Week's story of life among the Indians; two poems, by Crunch and Phoebe, Gary ; a talk about ants : some pleasing stories of horses, dogs and birds; illustrated rambles around Constantinople; a page of music to one of Mother Goose's Melodies ; recollections of old -fashioned times, and a collection of puzzles anil enigmas. It wt till be a quciT taste that found not ling to suit in thin variety. A company is about being formed to open up the old "Salt Wells," about one mile east of Salem Washington county, on the railroad, for the manufacture of salt. In early times these wells supplied the whole country thereabout with salt, and the well had only to he sunk about twenty feet to get the strongest kind of salt water. A newspaper published among the Rocky Mountains says of him obituarily : "He was a good, though dirty red man. He possessed a well balanced head of hair, and stomach enough for all he could get to cat. His regard for the truth was notable he never meddled with it. He left no will, and his estate consisted of a pair of boots."

On Sunday night, October 3d, as the schooner L. M, Chase of Chatham, was off M mot's Ledge, a loud, unnatural n.iise was heard by the
fishermen on board a sound much
resembling the beilowingof a bull which, with the darkness of night around, somewhat startled the men; but, in a few moments, this fright was greatly increased on seeing their
vessel, of eighty tons burden, suddenly lifted up in the water some six feet, and as suddenly let fall again, the counter of the vessel
throwing up large quantities of water in every direction. The con
sternation of the crew at this dn-play of power, may be conjectured ; thev
at once concluded they were in the convulsions of an earthquake. The bellowing noise first heard, was continued a siiort time, when it subsided. The vessel, however, was
found to have sustained no damage, and, after further consideration, it was ascertained that the atn.nge commotion was caused by a finback whale, which at certain times are known to act in the main or above described. Soma of theme whales have recently b?eu seen in the hay. Botion Journal,
The Coopers. The Cooper family in Tennessee is, apparently, rather nurrerous. Henry, the Senator-elect, was a Whig, and took the Union ide when the war broke out. So did his brother Edmund, afterwards the private secretary of Andy Johnson, and by him appointed Assistant S eretarv of thp Treasury. William F. Cooper, another brother, was a rebel judge, and left for Europe, when Gen' Bucl I took Nashville, remaining abroad until the close of the war. There is yet one more brother, an "unworthy member" of the family, of whom we have an account. This is Duncan Cooper, a rnbel guerrilla leader, the
rival of Morgan and Mosbv. He
confined his operations to Tennessee, ehieflv, wlice the war ended earlv.

- mtmw W9- mfi Gov. Horatio Seymour gave it as his opinion that New York State will give fifty thousand Democratic majoritv' this Fall, and that Ohio and Pennsylvania would sweep away Radicalism from their midst. This is not the first time the distingnished
Governor has attempted the r.ole of
prophet. During the last Presidential campaign his vaticinations were numerous and quite positive. Unfortunately, however, for his reputation as a Seer, the fulfillment generally was the reverse of the prediction. We presume the Demoocratic majority in New York is limited by the desire of the leaders and the frauds in the citv. But in
Ohio anil Pennsylvania, matters are
different.
