Hence the will and wishes of u few, may, and ought to be, sauiificed o the public good. A man's own good is to be regarded, rather than his unreasonable and mad wishes. Some people neither fear God, nor regard man; and others are the r own worst enemies, and needguarc -iaus all their lives. Liberty tosuci) men, that is freedom from restrain;, is simple ruin it amounts in their eas?, to suicide. I may be told that I am entertaining my audience with truism.-, denied by no one. Very well these truisms, universally admitted, involve all that I ask for, in endeavoring to determine the relation of government, to the cause of tem perance. If they are admitted already, I only have the less to do. And the)' are admitted, not only theoretically, but practically, in the ulministration of public authority and law. And on on this fact I take my stand to-day. In v?ry many things, tlu public safety, the public good, arc made to ontwtvjrli individual rights Avishes and liberties. Restraint in mt upon the individual, and the esser interests are set aside for the sake of the greater, and more general good. I only urg? that this principle of public policy so extensively applied in our municipal government, should be carried a little farther, and applied in the all important and urgent case of Intemperance I ask, in this, for nothing new only for the enforcement of a principle which is of da: ly application already. I will meation a few To be Continual.

Calisnya cr King's Baik was jnknown until the middle of the ijtb century. Humboldt makes favorable mention of its febrifuge qualities as an entidote to Fever aid Ague, Intermittent and Malarious Fevers, in his extensive South American travels. In 1640 it was used by the Jesuits, who alone at that time possessed the secret of its wonderful tonic properties, and it was sold by them for r,;s own weight in silver. In 1658, eighteen ye.irs after, Sir John Talbot employed it with great success in France in the treat -nent of Fever and Ague, Dyspepsia, Nervous Affections, Less of Appetite, Weakness and Debility, Palpitation of the Heart, Diarrhoea, etc. In 1679 he sold the secret cf its origin to Louis XIV, by whom it was divulged. It is now the all important hgredient in Drake's PLANTATION BITTERS, and preserved as it is in pure St. Croix Runt, makes a tonic of rare merit, and one that shouid be upon the side-board of ever fam; y Messrs. F. H. Drake & Co., the sole proprietors of thii celebrated PLANTATION BITTERS, are the largest importers of Calisaya Bark in America. The Eiark is gathered and cured under the immediate supervision of an agent sent out to Brazil, expressly for that purpose, and aside from 1 few thousand pounds which are solid to the manufacturers of Quinine, is all used in the preparing of thei.e Bitters, to which they are indebted for their wonderful success as a tonic.
