Our extensively advertised eclipse of the sun, took place according to promise, on Satuiday. The last total eclipse of thi sun took place June 16th, 1806, but it was not seen as total, in Indiana. The next total eclipse of the sun, will take place in 1890. How many of the persons who read this paiagraph, will live until then? Harvest is over, and soon the crops will b exchanged for money or goods. Our farmers are a reading people, and the business men who advertise in the Progress, will be si ire to reach them.

Balloon Ascension. There will be a Grand Balloon Ascension, on the last day of the County Fair. Arrangements have been made with one of the most daring iEronauts in the country, and he will bring his Mammoth Silk Balloon, "Union," and ascend with it on the day designated. A Balloon Ascension will bo a new sensation in this part of the State, as such a thing has never been attempted before, this side of New Albany or Indianapolis. Tell all your friends, and let thorn tell their neighbors, to come. The Teachers of Monroe County, and the public generally, arc requested to recollect that the County Institute will begin on Monday, August 23d. It is very desirable that a general attendance of the Teachers be had, as ample preparations are being made to render this one of the best Institutes ever hold in Monroe County. ... Tlio Egryptlan Washing Machine. This Machine is now on exhibition at Showers & Hembix's Furniture Wareroom, Stuart & Co's Hardware Store, Pearson's Dry Goods Store, and at tho Orchard House, where the Agents, the Messrs. Cozinb, may be found. From a careful examination of the construction, and some knowledge of the working of this Machine, we feel confident in asserting that it is one of tho most practical, common-sense Washers ever introduced into this community. The boards can be made to rub the clothing on just such parts as require the most rubbing, and as the lower board is filled with rollers, there is really no wear upon the articles placed within tho Machine. Full instructions given, and every Machine warranted to give satisfaction. The following certificates, from well known citizens of Bedford, are sufficient to satisfy the most skeptical as to tho practical value of the Egyptian Machine: Bedford, Ind, Aug. 9th, 1869. I hereby certify that the Egyptian Washing Machine has been used In my family for some time past, giving entire satisfaction, and I would not be without, one a period of two months, for the price of a machine. Many of my neighbors hare it in use, and without exception commend it as superior to anything yet introduced in t!:ie way of a Washing Machine. The Great Medical Mistake of
former days wiiS an utter neglect of sanitary precnutior.8. No efficient means were adopted for the prevention of sickness. iSeweragc was unknown in cities ; drainage was rarely attempted in the country. Heaps of offal were loft to rot in the public streets, and domestic cleanliness, the great antidote to febrile diseases, was sadly neg'iected. It is not so now. Wise laws, nhilnnthropic institutions, and a vigilant sanitary police, have, to a great extent, remedied the evil. Nor is this all. Preventive medication has helpod materially
to lessen the rates of mortality. It is not
too much to say that tens ot thousands escape sickness in unhealthy seasons in
consequence of having invigorated their systems in advance by a course of HOS-
TETTER'S STOMACH BITTJSRa. This pure and powerful vegetable tonic and alterative comprises the extracts and essences of a variety of roota and herbs, renowned for their strengthening, soothing, vitalizing and purifying properties. These medicinal agents are incorporated with a spirit absolutely free from the acrid poison which defiles, more or less, all th liquors of commerce, and their effect is diffused through the whole frame by this active, yet harmless stimulant. The result is such a condition of tho system as renders it all
but impervious to the exterior causes of
disease, sucn as aamp log, sucmen alternations of temperature, &c. Strength, and the perfect regularity of all the functions of the body, are the best safe-guardii against atmospheric poison and the effects of unwholesome water, and Hostetter'a Bitters are the best strengthening and regulating medicine at present known. For dyspepsia and billiouaness they are a specific absolute.
GRANT & PROSPERITY. Business revives under the new regime. Other than general causes have, however, given a tremendous impetus to the sale of Cristadoro's Excelsior Hair Eye. The chemists have come out in two leading scientific journals against the lead and sulphurs poisons for the head (for that is their proper designation,) with which tho country is infested, while Dr. Chilton, the first analytical chemist in America, announces to the world that Christadoro' s Dye is Utterly Poisonless, and that he knows it to be, so, because he has analyzed it. Cristadoro's Hair Prcsernative, as a Dressing, acts like a charm on the Huir after Dyeing. Try it.
BRANDRETH'S PILLS. They remove all bad accumulations from the bowels, and purify fcnd invigorate tho system. All whoso health is not perfect
owe it to themselves to take a few doses of Brandreth's Pills, because the seeds of
decay are constantly eradicated by their use, and the principle of life confirmed, thus giving a vigor of body and mind to a period when wo navo been used to see the faltering step and the enfeebled intellect. General Paez, the distinguished liberator of Venezuela, says he has used -them as his only medicine for thirty years, with the most satisfactory results. For Costiveness, Dyspepsia, and as a Family Medicine, they are unrivalled. Diuiiel I. Tenney, Esq., Astor House, N. Y., cured by Brandreth's Pills of Dyspepsia and Costiveness, when all other means used had failed. A gentleman, whose father died of consumption at 36 years, was also attacked, when about 21, by the disease. He had cough, night sweats, and general debility. Doctors recommended cod liver oil, but he wasted away. At last he determined to use Brandreth's Pills. In two months they made him a sound man. Aug. Important Notice. Farmers, Families, and others can purchase no Remedy equal to Dr. Tobias' Venetian Liniment for the cure of Cholera, Diarrheas, Dvsenterv. Croun. Colic, and Sea 8icknes&,

Depot, 10 Park Place, New York, aug In Numbers there is safety, it was upon this principle that the formula of Judson's Mountain Herb Pills was prepared. It was not the result of one man's knowledge. Dr. Judson intending to spend a fortune in advertising his pills, consulted the most intelligent and learned physicians of the ago, and tho result was the production of a simple but efficacious medicine, the Judson's Mountain Herb Pills. These pills cure Billiousnoss, Dispepsio, Liver Complaint, Indigestion, Female Irregularities, &c. They have now been used many years by tho public and thousands of testimonials boar witness to their virtues. As a family medicine they are unrivaled. Give the Mountain Herb Pills a trial.
