THE YOUNG LOVERS. To a man who is a little of a philosopher, and a bachelor to boot, and, who, by a hint of some one experienced in the follies of life, begins to look with a learn ed eyt upon the ways of man and eye of woman, to such a man,! say, there is something very entertaining in noticing the conduct of a pair of young lovers. It may not bo as grave nnd scientific a study as the love of the '!anets; but it is certainly interesting. I have, therefore, derived much pleasure since my arrival at the Hall, from observing the fair Julia and hor lover. She his nil the delightful blushing consciousness of an artless girl experienced in coquetry, u ho has made her first conquest, while the captain regards her with tint mixture cf fondness and exultation, with which a youthful lover is apt to contemplate so beauteous n prize. I observed them yesterday in the garden, udvancing along one of the retired walks. The sun was shining with delicious warmth, making great masses of bright verdure and deep blue shade. The
cuckoo, thHt Harbinger of spring, wnsfaintly heard from a distance ; ; 1 I ..:...! r 1... 11 ' in; 1 11 a 1 1 1 i 1 -1 1 1 i 1 1 1 1 iim ia:is-K tliurn nnd the yellow butterlly sported and toyed nnd fluttered in the air. The fnir Julia was lertiii; on her lover's arm listen- ' iug to his conversation, with her j eyes cast dow n , a soft blush up- 1 on lur diet k and a quiet smile on : her lips; while in the. hand that ! hung in R'ier.t hy her side was a ; lunrlul tlowers. In this way they were, sauntering slowly iiloeg, and wluit I considered mens uno tne scene in wnicti they Were moving, could not but think it a pity that the seasons ever prow older, or that blossoms vhubl eer pive way to fruit, or that lovers, should ever pet marlie 1 1 . The. subjtiineil item will be intf.irstingto the engine builders of this city. A Steam Engine of improved construction has lately been invented in England. The piston of the cylinder is attached to the Crank of the shaft of the paddle wheel, and there is n contrivance Within the cylinder for the piston to accommodate itself to the motion of the crank, ft is now in operation on the Thames, and performs without the slightest defect. The bot to which it is tttached goes from London to Gravesend. A saving of n considerable power is effected, and
the cost of the engine is reduced to nearly orqnite half."
