Tin: I’iiksomenon at I'tica.—Wo! have published a full account of the singular phenomenon near I lien, N. Y. It seems that it is no tornado or whirlwind. A con-respondent of the , New York Tribune says: I have no theory to offer ns to the character of the phenomenon. Scientific men in this region are puzzled [ beyond parallel by the occurrence. * Many saw it in this city, yet no one 1
■*a'rThere were no less than six persons executed last Friday. One named Jackson suffered the penalty of tho law at Chicago for killing Horn an Morris. Geo. W. Shape and John Johnson were hung at Ed wardsville, 111., for the murder of Jacob Itarth. A third, named Sharpe, who was also convicted, had his punishment commuted to imprisonment for life by the G uvernor, on account of his extreme youth. \ * Cl I i a IV iiitohiiii v I t /Mila n • i , I
remeinberes having seen or beard of its like before. There was no wind whatever accomanying it; it was not a whirlwind. And there arc no signs of heat in the path of its destruction, ns would seem to have been neces« )( sarily the ease had electricity been the agent. A gentleman who saw it hero do- 1 scribes it as resembling a monster clc- 1 pliant’s trunk, swinging lazily hut ' powerfully about, crushing all in its 1 way, and hurling hoards and trees 1 ■into the air like playthings. ]
At St. Louis, Nueslciu, Shoulz, and La Pointe were executed. La Point© died for the murder of Robert Wheaton, whom he killed in a drunken frenzy, with a shovel, at Cnrnmlelct [on the 15th of January last; Slioultz for the shooting in a quarrel of Henry Inkamp, on the Oth of June, 1850; and Nuesleiu for the death of his wife, caused by his beating her with a stick of wood in a fit of rage. Nueslin protested his innocence to the last. Every effort was made to have his sentence commuted, but without success. The prisoners were all catholics. — JLouimlh 1 Journal.

$1107,00 Stolen! --A gentleman by the name of Wooster, son-in-law of Mr. James Slaughter, of Blooming Grove township, in this county, was robbed of the above amount on Thursday last, about two o'clock. Mr. Wooster is a resident of Illinois, and bad been in the county but a day or two on a visit to his friends. It is supposed that he has been followed by some person or persons from his residence in Illinois, as his having that amount of money was not known to any one here. A fellow answering to the description of a person seen in the neighborhood wanting to buy sheep, left in the omnibus for Cincinnati at four o’clock, on Thursday morning, and it is strongly suspected that he may know something of it. Our Sheriff immediately dispatched Deputy Sheriff Batzner in pursuit, who we hope will overtake him before he gets to the city. Brookville Democrat.

The Conspiracy in Wall Slreel. The enterprise of the Western country is now reeling under the concerted attacks of the “Bears" of Wall street, to depress all Western stocks. Nothing short of a conspiracy now exists, to that end. Daily meetings, in private, are held, at which those implicated bind themselves to sell the doomed stocks at lower than market rates, nil the accomplices agreeing to share the loss. In cases like the New York Central, or the Michigan Central, where there has been no stock in the market upon which to operate, spurious sales are made on time, to be delivered in sixty days, of five or ten shares of the stocks, and, at the same time, all manner of rumors arc put afloat, calculated and designed to create a panic among real holders, and to compel them to sell. By these and the like influences, Eric Railroad stocks hare been depressed from G-l to 33 per cent; Hudson River Hail road from 3d to !!•; Michigan Southern from SH to 48. The scope of the designs of these stock jobbers is general; they intend to depress every Western stock. Although the whole SStock Hoard nrc in a manner implicated in this disgraceful proceeding, yet the conspirators nrc known, and are distinct from the body itself. They hold their staled and frequent meetings at the St. Nicholas, or elsewhere, and determine how much stock of a given corporation shall he forced down, who shall do it, and how the loss shall ho divided. The “fun” for the Wall street “Bears” is death to the West.— Stocks are depressed without the slightest reason or cause for it, and honest horn Me, holders suffer, to gratify the gambling propensities of a few Wall-street speculators.—Detroit A dreriw.
